I was wondering how can I add a second harddrive to my E6500. I saw this product on Dell.

External Media Bay Module for Select Dell Latitude E-Family Laptops / Precision Mobile WorkStations

    Manufacturer Part# : J709C
    Dell Part# : 430-3116

My doubt is can I buy a 1.8" HDD and use it with the above product or what are my options?

    Thanks

Is it the SEC5442 or 5443? If you have 5443 its the crappy one and the 5442 is the good one!

I have the SEC5442. Is this one supposed to be as good as the Phillips? As I say, so far it looks good to me, but I've only had the notebook two days.

Does the Control Point application provide drivers for the docking station for the E6400/E6500? For the D820, there was a driver that added a button on the start menu for prepping the system to be undocked while it was still on, but haven't seen it for the E6500...

I was thinking the same thing. No undocking option in the Start menu. I hope they fix this in an upcoming update. My system has froze many times when docking and undocking my E6500.

Confirmed, the h/d media bay caddy only takes 1.8" drives !!!!!????

What were Dell thinking? It's not just a capacity thing, it's how slow 1.8" drives are.

The only thing the new E/M series seems to have over the Lenovo T series, is better screens. The T500 is quieter under load (though similar in noise at idle), offers 2x switchable graphics cards, and easily available 2.5" media bay h/d caddies.

    Hi shoebox9,
Can you comment a bit further on how the e6500's screen is better than the t500's??

    Thanks

I'd guess it's considered to be better because there is no LED backlight option for the T500.

Is there a better driver for the touchpad.... possibly a link...

Mine is so sensitive, I am always highlighting stuff when I drag my cursor.

    Suggestions....

Just received my E6500 yesterday after a LONG fiasco with 2 Vostro 1510s and 1 Vostro 2510, all of which had the dreaded audio skipping/chopping problem. Although I haven't had much time to play around with it, here are my fist impressions:

1st, and foremost, this laptop does not have the aforementioned audio problem (THANK GOD).

The overall construction and build quality of the 6500 appears to be solid. Although the audio problem on the Vostros was frustrating (and ultimately led to them being returned) the displays (WUXGA) were absolutely gorgeous. I am a big fan of the Truelife (glossy) screens as the higher contrast ratios result in extremely vibrant colors.

Before I ordered the E6500, it wasn't clear if the screen would be Truelife (the buzz word Dell is pushing is HighBrightness). The Dell rep indicated that although it didn't explicitly state it, most of Dell's WUXGA screens are Truelife screens. WRONG. The 6500 is a matte screen. It is a bright screen, however, the colors are not as vibrant and they appear to be a little off. It seems as though there is too much blue (cool) in the display. I have been looking for a way to set the display to a warmer color setting, but have been unsuccessful. If anyone has figured out a way to do this, let me know.

The built-in web cam is pretty decent as is the fingerprint scanner. The back-lit keyboard is very cool and works well. The touchpad, however, needs work. Along with the frequently mentioned tracking/sensitivity problems, it has an annoying glitch that results in the mouse cursor animations not working. I'm hoping it is a driver issue, however, I've been reading it might be hardware related.

Other than that, so far, it seems like a fairly solid machine. I'll have more to say as soon as I have spent some more time with it.
