I'm not sure about the weight of the slice, but yes it uses the docking connector. I do not think it has another connector at the bottom though, but I'll try and ask my Dell contact tomorrow.

    According to the E6400 manual...

I wish they made a media bay battery though. I don't like how the slice adds a bit of thickness to the entire thing. Plus, we'd have the option of a 9-cell primary, 12-cell slice, AND a 6-or-so-cell media bay battery. Think of the runtime XD

After further digging, I found out the thickness

    12-cell lithium-ion battery 14.48 mm (0.57 inches)

I do hope that the battery slice has the docking connector. Sometimes I just like to throw the notebook in the dock to charge it. Also if I plan on using the legacy e-port in the field, it could be a pain.

Also, has anyone seen any place selling 4gb PC6400 SoDIMMs? I seem unable to find them. I can only find 667 mhz modules.

Thanks for the replies and information everyone.

Why on EARTH would you need 8GB???

Stick with 4GB. Wait until 8GB actually becomes affordable.

Given Dell's massive understatement of the weight of the E6400...I would suggest that all considering the slice take that weight measurement with a large pile of salt until we get real numbers.

The docking station has a movable block, if you've got a 6cell pack you can shift it out so it takes up the space meant for a 9-cell.

Hmmm, is anyone here running on the 9-cell battery, or has an order is process with a 9-cell?

Need some information if the 9-cell battery exhibits some minor shifting too while locked in the battery compartment like the 6-cell does. :)

    Hi all,

I have a few questions on the E6400:

    1. I already have 4 GB DDR2 memory (667MHz) on hand, and am wondering if I'd notice a difference in speed versus the 800 MHz modules listed on Dell's site.

    2. Do the keyboard keys feel "mushy"?

    3. Whats the actual battery life you get under normal use? Please include what you normally do with it so I can get an idea of how much life the battery would be under my usage pattern.

    Thanks!
