Regarding the led screen option : I would like to know few things about it's qualities :

    1. how are it's colours ? compared with other notebook screens / desktop lcd's you've seen before ?

    2. contrast and brightness - black levels ? white levels ?

    3. viewing angles ? I heard led backlit LCDs suffer from poor viewing angles, is that the case here?

    4. overall impression / other stuff..

    Thanks a lot !!! :)

I haven't yet got mine, but I don't know where you got the misconception LED backlight displays had bad viewing angles. The screen itself is still fundamentally the same, it just has a different type of lamp behind it.

Laptops in general do suffer from much worse viewing angles than larger LCD's however.

Placed my order on 20th August but still haven't received it. In Dell's tracking system, the factory was not even starting building it. No estimated arrival date. Only very few machines arrived here but I knew quite a lot orders placed.

I would also be interested in hearing from anyone who has used the Webcam for video conferencing, say in MSN or Skype? How was the picture reported back? Ok enough for use? Obviously at .3MP not going to be using it for much else, but is that enough to at least use for MSN and such?

Need some advice from members here. My E6400 is currently running on a Seagate Momentus 7200.2 - a drive known for really mediocre performance for 7200rpm class. My impression is that performance will still be generally 'snappier' than 5400rpm drives because of the lower seek time from a 7200rpm motor.

Dell sent me a replacement Hitachi 7K200 160GB hard disk, but this one doesn't have any free fall sensor (weird, because as discussed in other threads, Dell lists this as having FFS, and the box that contained my drive also had 'FFS' printed on its description label). My laptop configuration is for a 160GB 7200rpm w/ FFS.

I'm thinking of whether to swap to the 7K200 which will offer better performance but no protection, or return the 7K200 and run out to my local store to get a WD Scorpio Black 160GB w/ FFS, or forget about both and just stick to the Momentus based on the reasoning that it is 'still generally snappier performance than a 5400rpm'?

Based on performance charts I've been looking up, the WD Black would actually be offering quite substantial improvements over the Momentus actually if we are talking about absolute performance...

Since they mailed you something that wasn't as good, ask for another replacement. Tell them to either send a FFS 160GB 7200RPM drive or refund the amount of the upgrade.

I've sent an email to Hitachi tech support regarding their 7K200. Probably they'll get back to me on Monday since it's Friday now.

I think the options for 7200rpm FFS drives are very limited :(: Seagate, Samsung and WD. I actually requested for a WD1600BJKT if it was available and they sent me something else which supposedly doesn't have FFS instead. Not too keen in the Samsung MP2 as the power consumption is very bad to begin with.
