    Can you enter the service tag into Dell's support site and see the specifications?

    Which resolution display? That's an LG panel but not the same as my LG WXGA+ panel.

    Is the display dazzling / washed out on full brightness? The LED backlights are usually brighter than the CCFL tubes.

    Today I found a problem with my E6400. I hot-undocked it while it was running, and went to a meeting where I used it for a presentation (VGA).

    When I came back and re-docked it, it didn't pick up the monitor connected to the dock (VGA). Now, even after multiple on-off cycles and reboots both on and off the dock, it doesn't pick up the external monitor connected to the dock. I'm probably just going to connect the monitor to it directly and call support on Monday, but I was wondering if anyone has faced a similar issue. It's running XP SP2 and has Intel graphics.

    From my knowledge XP has a LOT of problem with multiple display setup. Back in 2001.. multiple display was not very used.

    what GB (rightly) means, is unless you have a VERY good reason to still be using xp (And not win7 with xp mode), upgrade your OS.

    which is, of course, not an answer. I can at least tell you that I haven't seen anyone complain of that issue yet on this forum, and ive been posting/following on it since post 1. not to mean that someone hasn't had the issue yet.

    What I wanted to say, nicely, is that their is no real solution to the problem due to the OS. You'll need to find a workaround to your needs, if you want to keep XP and not upgrade to Vista or Win7, where that issue is solved.

    Just gettting round to set everything up on the E6400. Very pleased with the system so far. It was a scratch&dent and the only flaw on it is a blemish on the edge where the WLAN antenna's and such are, i could just get that replaced i guess but i'll see if i'm even bothered by it in a weeks time.

    @John
    Turns out the systems has the WXGA screen iso the WXGA+ i was hoping for. It wasn't specified in the offering but i'm ok with it since it's not my main system anyway. I will probably get the backlit keyboard for it since i'm already missing that now ;) It is VERY bright indeed, not sure about dazzling though, not exactly sure what that would look like but at this brightness it's pretty uncomfortable to look at.

    I sometimes have the same problem, just go into the nVidia Control panel and choose the multiple monitors again. For some strange reason Windows sometimes forgets about them, happens to me maybe once or twice a month?

    another thought -- using multi-monitor software like ultramon www.realtimesoft.com might be of use to you. it can force the reapplication of settings, which might trigger the recognition of the monitor.
