Hi all. This is my first post on the forums. I've been reading several user experiences and figured I should join since I'm having several questions/issues with my E6400.

For now my issue is with a 9 Cell battery I purchased from fleabay.

I bought a "Geniune New" battery from a US seller. For some reason the BIOS always reads it at 99%, where as my 6 cell will go to 100%. Is this normal for the 9 cell? Also I noticed the LED light button is much harder to press on the 9 cell compared to the 6.

The only part number I could get from the 9 cell is this:

    JP-0FU441-47847-917-J6NP-A01

It has all the Dell markings, recycle numbers etc. It even came with a 9 cell Dell booklet. I just wasn't sure if all these 9 cells register at 99%. My old Inspiron E1505 9 cell also registered at 99%.

1] determine first if its a genuine batt endorsed by dell and not some 3rd party batt
2] download a batt tester or battery bar by osiris and check your battery wear and its capacity
3] from there, we can determine if its OEM or 3rd party then if its circuitry is defective

Here's a picture of what it looks like: http://www.laptoppartsshop.com/uploads1/products/img3/257710_1225251711.jpg

I ran BatteryBar and these were the results:

    Percent: 100%
Capacity 84,915 mWh of 84,195 mWh
    Battery: Charged
    Full Lifetime: Caluclating...
    A/C: Connected
Battery Wear: 0.0% of 84,915 mWh

With Battery on and without A/C:

    Percent: 96.9%
Capacity 82,273 mWh of 84,195 mWh
    Discharge Rate: -12,044
    Battery: 7:50
    Full Lifetime: Caluclating...
    A/C: Disconnected
Battery Wear: 0.0% of 84,915 mWh

Mind you, I'm running on Windows 7 so I don't know if that will affect the accuracy of the battery.

I was just curious to know if all 9 Cell Batteries for the Latitude E series reported 99% in the Dell Bios A15 (to be exact) rather than 100%.

To ad to the battery specs:

    Cell made in Japan
    Pack Assembled in Malaysia

My 6 cell was made in Korea and assembled in China.

    Also it says: DP/N 0FU441

Have you tried actually letting your computer idle and see how long it lasts?

If it lasts the expected amount (+- half an hour) I wouldn't worry.

It has been discovered that the battery doesn't' recharge when it's 96% or over, this is probably a security measure to not burst the battery and burn yoru hands as it is a 85WHr 9-cell.

Let the battery in use until it is at LEAST 90% (anything bellow is fine). Then plug-in back in, go to sleep, wake up and see the battery level, it should be at 100%.

My 9 cell, which I think is genuine, also came from ebay. RMClock tells me it is a Panasonic.

    Thanks everyone.

I'll try draining the battery and see how much "real life" I get out of it. Then I'll charge it back up and see if the BIOS then reads 100%.

Can any of you confirm the 9 cell DP/N's that you have?

As I said above, mine is: 0FU441

RMclock says mine is a FU44189.

I got roughly 5.5-6 hours of life with sleep and screen saver turned off and while watching a few Windows HD video clips in media player. Now I'm recharging to see if it detects 100% in BIOS. Should it?

EDIT: Ok so on the recharge, it still only goes up to 99% in BIOS. Maybe this is just how the 9 cells operate?

My 9-cell (came with my E6400 new) registers "Fully Charged- 100%" whenever it's plugged in and charged completely. I'm not sure why yours is stopping at 99%, but I don't think I'd worry too much as long as it doesn't continue to drop below 99% max...
