Xls > That looks pretty bad. I checked my E4300 case and my doesn't suffer from those defects. May be try to ask Dell for change.

Has anyone run their E4300 with dual external monitors yet?

I want to be sure that the X3100 can handle running 2x 20" (4:3) LCD's before spending the money on the docking station.

    Anyone?

    Thanks!

The E4300 runs the Intel X4500 HD (not the X3100). I use the dock with a Dell 24" Full HD monitor and it works well. Did try (just for fun) to Dual monitor it to our Full HD TV (ie 2 full HD outputs through dock's digital output) and I couldn't get it to display. Maybe my problem with setup - not sure?

I should also point out the E-Port plus dock says it has HDMI, but they appear to be non-standard HDMI sockets?

I have a Dell E4300 and have also the irritating frequent Disk Access problem - every 1-2 seconds with disk noise and light flicker. This also occurs in Windows safe mode so I guess unlikely software related.

Dell in Germany offer little/no support saying:
    1. This is normal on this machine
    2. We have no test machine to compare to
    3. You have to re-install windows to see if this is software related

Has anyone else got the same problem and has anyone found a solution? ???

Otherwise I would recommend this machine to those who fail to be irritatetd by sounds and flickering lights only !

On another issue - Dell Connection Manager clashes with Checkpoint SecureRemote - solution uninstall DCM.

I actually got the same problem but did not contact Dell support yet. But now that I read what they told you, I am pretty pissed. Until now I thought it is all about Vista (did not have time to install Linux yet). If it is not, that's a mess.
I should have gone with the SSD, ed..

If it's Vista, it could be Vista indexing when your computer is idle. Or when Vista perform maintenance task to keep your system at max performance and not degrade over time like XP (they are other things than defrag). However, maintenance should not cause you the hear the HDD let alone see a strong light on the HDD light indicator. Also, you have the HDD that perform it self some tasks.

Try to run HD Tune. It's free diagnostic tool that checks your HDD in a second.

I did so and also posted the results here (see last page). Unfortunately noone here did answer me if my HDD is okay or broken, yet.

I see Zorylf is running Vista and Im running XP and we both have same problem - I wear ear-plugs and have covered the flickering light to make it acceptable !!

I have found someone in US with same problem and there are similar problems reported with the 6400 with the problem being solved with a MotherBoard change.

Problem occurs also with XP in Safe mode and virtually no task loaded. Intrestibglin in BioS Setup disk is quiet. I have tried virtual memor settings but no use.

With HardDisk Monitor - a raw read error rate of 117 is reported. Seek error rate is 66 - Think these indicate could be disk problem but dont know how to read.

I wonder also whether a badly seated disk or badly seated or wrong memory chip - had a timilar problem with a TI about 16 years ago and turned out was wrong memmory speed.

Somehow I have to convince Dell that it is not software and they should send a technician to fix

    Any additional help welcome

    Hi all,
I recived my baby just today  , and I must say that this thing makes me the "wow!!" effect:no production faults, lightweight and fast, beautiful keyboard (personally I like very much tiping with it), no problem with the trackpad (but vista's animated cursor is not animated also for me, but it doesn't matter), very very bright and vibrant screen, and thanks god, no useless software in it...just what you need!!
I can't test battery life, but a strange thing happened to me...before starting it up for the first time, i plug the notebook with the charger to charge the battery, but after only 30 minutes it appears to be fully charged.it is possible?
And how can i use the status leds on the battery, because if i press the related little button they won't turn on.
I can confirm i don't have any of the problems reported here with my hdd (7200 rpm 120 gb) and the machine run cool n' quiet.
I have a lot of question about, but I'll post more tomorrow, for now i can just say that this machine is beautiful and worth every cents i spend for it (1575€ => phone call to order it => 1464 :D )

    Simone
