Really good review. I noticed you suggested going with the i5-7200U might be the more prudent choice so I thought I'd see if there were any benchmarks yet and was surprised to see there was very little performance difference between the 7200U and 7600U. Granted there aren't very many benchmarks of the 7600U so far.

Raw CPU speed gives a good wPrime (or similar CPU benchmark score) but may not have much impact on most people's everyday workload. That was highlighted to me recently when I got a Latitude 7370 with a Core M CPU. While the CPU was well behind recent U series CPUs in wPrime 1024M (the Core M looks good in wPrime 32M as it does the first 15s in turbo mode), the difference in the PCMark benchmarks between the 7370 and my Latitude E7450 (possibly hampered by the 1 x 8GB RAM at the time of testing) was very small. It is rare that the price premium for the top CPU is justified and the money is usually better spent on more RAM or a higher capacity SSD.

Thanks for reading it. I think @John Ratsey stated it very well that the difference between processors is more exaggerated in benchmarks than it is in real life. Even the Core i3 is plenty for most usage, the only problem with that CPU is that it's hard to find in a more expensive notebook.

We got 3 x 7480s a week ago. I like it, seems more focused on work than notebooks like the XPS 13.

We do have some problems with them though:

Fingerprint reader wont work at all with Windows Hello.
The notebook seems to be activated by something, which prevents it from going to sleep or turns on the screen if I got that far.

I am currently in contact with Dell Support but any hints are welcome.

You can see what (if anything) Event Viewer > System Log shows when you tell the computer to sleep.

Also, go through Device Manager and make sure that any options to keep the computer awake are turned off. Then check the same in the Power options > Advanced power settings.

Great machine, but unfortunate that they chose to place the power connector on the left.

Where would you like it? (I assume on the back as on the E7470 and earlier models). However, I find that a location at the back of one side is most convenient (easy to plug in). However, this should be accompanied with a L-shaped DC plug on the power cable so the cable can be routed to the back of the computer but Dell put straight plugs on thier PSUs. A 7.4mm to 7.4mm version of this would do the job but I don't think anyone makes one.
