Agreed, 800 mhz should not make this kind of lagg, I have seen the multiplier at 8x very often (when idle, then it is actually all the time on 8x), and all the time there is no problem at all (except some of these laggi situtations). If it needs more resources, then the multiplier increases etc..

I have installed HWiNFO, next time when it happen, I can post some results.
But last time it happened, I posted the pic, showing temps are just fine, even fan not kicked in.

By the way, I have disabled intel's turbo boost at the moment I got this laptop, because, fan was too often kicked in, I prefer it being quiet. So max multiplier can be 26x, and this would not cause throttling at all, I have done several stress tests.

Has anyone found a M.2 2242 SSD that works in the 7450 yet?

I've (re)checked a Transcend M.2 2242 (which did work in the E5570) in my E7450 and the system doesn't see it. I would presume that the BIOS isn't set up to look for an SATA SSD in the WWAN slot. There might be a rational reason for this: The more hardware options that the BIOS has to check for then the longer the boot process.

The 7450 doesn't use SATA in M.2 slot, has to be PCIE. I haven't found any 2242 format PCIE SSD, they all seem to be SATA interface.

Hello, i've just bought e7450 i5-5300u model with integrated graphics.
Machine works very well, however it gets hot after a moderate usage. HW monitors shows that temperatures of CPUS dont exceed 40oC, (its gets up to 65 during stress test) fan doesnt kick in but i feel discomfort when holding it on my laps. anyone have this problem?

65C under a stress test is quite cool! I think the cause of the hot bottom problem is there is a moderate CPU loading condition which warms up the CPU (and hence surrounding area) but not enough to get the fan to start (55C?).

You can download Dell Power Manager and try the different options to see if there is a fan control setting which reduces the bottom heating (but I've not noticed much difference when experimenting with this software). Also, in the advanced settings for the power profile there should be an entry > Processor power management > System cooling policy. If it is set to Passive then try Active. Another possible fix is to give a quick burst of CPU activity to get the fan running. The temperature at which it turns off is lower than the threshold for turning it on.

oh sorry, i have just installed a few more temp. monitoring apps and what i've seen here is that the info from senesors differ.. one that seems more life-like is showing 85C under stress... and yes, mid 50-60ies during moderate use... Should i change my thermopaste? what temperatures do you guys get? do you experience bottom heating as well?

It is more than likely you could benefit from re-doing the thermal paste but it's likely you will still get to around 80C under full load.

Make some observations of temperature and fan behaviour under different loading conditions. You can do this using wPrime with different numbers of threads use the 1024M option and HWiNFO which will show the fan speed (if you enable the Dell EC and turn on the sensors). I think you will discover that the worst bottom heating is when running one thread when it takes a long time for the fan to start operating.

However, another bit of information is where is the heating worst? I recall it being on the bottom back left side where the computer sits on the left thigh / knee when in laptop mode. The heat is transferred by the heatpipe from the CPU to this area but, if the fan isn't running then the heat is dissipated passively. If you have time go back though this thread. I think you will find more discussion (but no real solution).

Also check if you have the most recent BIOS (A13) and drivers. You can get these by putting the computer's Service Tag into the Dell support website.

Yeah thats the exact spot where i get most of the heating.. i've updated my bios, hoping for some improvements, however not much of improvement.. and i will try to do more reading in this thread.. sad, however, there is no solution.. nice laptop if not the heat problem..
