Latitude 7450 Owners' Thread

I do remember having it before, but currently it doesn't happen anymore. I don't know the reason, maybe it's because of the updated drivers/BIOS.
Do you normally use sleep/hibernate by closing the lid instead of shutting down the notebook? Does the glitch occur since the first sleep action or after several times you close/open the lid?

 

Normally closing the lid sends the laptop into hybernation mode. Funny thing is, I have the newest drivers, too. It always happens after it wakes up from hybernation.

 

This used to happen to me all the time and it would shift around any open windows. I downloaded the graphics driver directly from Intel (I know it's not recommended) and after removing the old Dell package and installing the Intel direct drivers I haven't had any issues with shifting resolutions upon wake from hibernate or sleep. Much better in my opinion as it was annoying having open windows shift around.

By the way, now I'm sometimes experiencing some kind of noise from the speakers, when waking up laptop and more rare randomly. Sounds like short series of 'tppp'. Also, if sound is set to low value, 'click' from windows explorer (when moving from one folder to another, win 7) slowly turns into static burst '~pfft' as I further decrease the volume. I think I'm going to try speaker replacement along with the display - the backlight bleeding is noticeable and I hope the next display will have less.

 

Try performing a driver update as I was also having some sound issues (mainly ticks and pops when playing YouTube videos) which were resolved with a driver update. I believe that it was the Bluetooth and WiFi drivers that were updated. I don't believe that your issue would be related to hardware, but more likely a driver issue. Of course you could try the speaker replacement but that is likely an exercise in futility.

As for the back-light bleed, I personally haven't noticed it but I recently upgraded my 1366 display to a Samsung 1080p panel and have been very happy with it (along with the back-lit keyboard) for night time use. If the bleed is localized to the mounting points of the display (close to the corners), you might want to back off the screws and gently screw them down and possibly put some loc-tite on the screws, although it might be difficult with their small size.

 

Thanks, that really might be related to drivers as this issue appeared only recenly (except that strange glitch with explorer sound at low volumes).
Did you update the drivers using Dell support site or did you do it manually?

I have a version with FHD display. While replacing, engineer tried to tighten or loose the screws and that didn't quite affect the bleeding. As I undertand, all the displays Dell uses for this model have some amount of BL bleeding, but some have less and I hope I'll be lucky next time
It's only partly localised at the corners as it crosses the screen diagonally.

Another question: does somebody know why Dell LTE cards are so damn expensive? Minimal price was 50$, and USB-modem is a lot cheaper.

 

Run the online update on the Dell support site and auto detect for your system. This should pick up all required drivers. Also, there is likely a BIOS update required, unless you ran one recently (there was one in April). Hopefully this will take care of the sound issue. Also try changing settings in the Dell Audio app/utility to see if that has any effect.

As for the display, keep trying until they get it right. Hopefully they will eventually give you a panel that has minimal backlight bleed. Mine is a Samsung panel from www.laptopscreen.com and I've been happy with it overall. I don't notice any significant bleed in the dark with dark images/backgrounds. I know that Dell uses a variety of panels such as LG, AUO and Samsung (others as well) so hopefully you'll eventually get a good one.

And as for the LTE card, looks like $50 is about the best price. Looked around and that's about as low as I've seen.

 

Playing with sound settings currently didn't do anything, but I'll keep trying.
After the last update I did it only shows that Intel Management Engine Components Installer and O2 Micro OZ777xxx/OZ621XX memory card reader Driver do need update, but I did install these last versions a few times and it still shows them in the update list.
Hmm, is it possible that they use displays from different manufacturers for one model?

 

BTW, about the sound. Does anybody have a cracking sound from the right speaker when volume level is low and you jump forward in a Youtube video? I guess it's a driver, but that's doesn't make me happier. Too much issues for the expensive SKU.

 

I was experiencing something like that, but it's coming from both speakers and sounds more like short bursts 'tpp' than crackling.
Yeah, I'm getteing tired of this. Coil whine, backlight bleeding, driver issues... But there's a lot of good poins for certain.
