thanks for the tips... i'll definitely do that before I decide on purchasing. I don't know if they could lower it $700 or so to match Lenovo's price. Its kinda stupid why they list this price if they're willing to lower it considerably. I'm sure many who don't know about calling up a sales rep would go buy another brand instead because of the price difference.

yeah i'll do that.. $100 diff only

haha i guess Dell's price would go up even higher. think i'm nearly sold for the Lenovo

thats because these notebooks are usually purchased by IT departments, not individuals.

nobody in the business world pays list prices :p

there is always room to bargain, unless its a commodity

hey I see that the slower intel T9600 processor for the Lenovo is about $250 cheaper than the T9900 I have currently picked. Do you think there will be much noticeable difference between a 2.8ghz and a 3.06ghz processor? Should I go for the slower 2.8ghz one? Will it meet my needs? I'm sure I could upgrade to the 3.06ghz processor in a year for much less.

    no there isnt much difference.

btw, for the spec of the dell in my signature, i paid approx USD$1600 (approx USD 1700 with the current exchange rate). and that was almost a year ago, when it was newly launched.

btw is the graphics card on the Lenovo comparable to the one on Dell? Do graphics card matter much for the 3d work i'll be doing on softwares like 3dsMax, Maya, Rhino etc?

The M4400 offers the option of NVIDIA Quadro FX 1700M, 512MB graphics card but it costs $200 more. Will I see a noticeable difference from this card as opposed to the lower priced Graphics NVIDIA Quadro FX 770M, 512MB?

If you are looking for workstation class machines, you might also consider the HP 8530w.

Have you also considered saving a little on the laptop and getting a high performance desktop computer to go with it? You could use the desktop in your room and just carry the laptop to class. You pay a lot to get a high performance laptop, but a high performance desktop is relatively cheap and easier to use since you can connect bigger monitors, etc.

there isnt difference between the FX1700 and FX770, the FX1700m consumes more power and produces more heat, for very little benefit. It is essentially a factory overclocked FX770, they're both the same chip.

the ATI card on the lenovo is not as good as the FX770, but its not a big difference.

its the same as comparing an ATI 3650 and nVidia 9600GT

i'd have taken that route but I'll be doing a study semester in another country and I do move around for internships a lot.

    k guess I'll stick with the FX770
