So after looking around for the last couple of weeks, I finally placed my order for the following Vostro 1710:

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T8300 (2.4GHz, 3MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
    17.0 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen WXGA+ LCD Display w/TrueLife™
3GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz, 2 DIMM
    256MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8600M GS (128 bit)
    250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
    No UPEKM® Fingerprint Reader
    Genuine Windows® XP Professional
8X DVD+/-RW with double-layer DVD+/-R write capability, with Roxio Creator
    High Definition Audio 2.0
    Dell Wireless 1505 Wireless-N Mini-card
Integrated 1.3 mega pixel Web Camera and Digital Microphone
58 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
1 Year Basic Limited Warranty plus 1 Year Mail-in Service

Total was $1,260 CAD including tax and shipping

I'll write a mini review with first impressions and a few benchmarks when I get it. Can't wait!

Nice configuration. I like the 8600M GS option. Congrats and good luck on your laptop shipment.

I am not sure of the difference between the Vostro 1710 and the Inspiron 1720, but you can get a better Inspiron 1720 for a flat 1000 after 30% off coupon, google the coupon. I ordered one but then i canceled and ordered a gateway.

Thanks! Yeah the 8600M GS was one of the major selling points for me... should be a good step up from the x1400 in my current laptop.

We don't have those 30% off coupons in Canada so I went with the Vostro. I also liked that it's not as bulky as the Inspiron.

How come when I try configuring one at Dell.com, it says it has the 8600M GT card instead? Anyway, we'll be waiting for your review :) Pictures, benchmarks and all.

Wow, that's better than the current configuration (T7250, and more expensive xd)

That's weird on the Canadian Dell site there was no mention of the 8600M GT. Maybe they made a mistake especially because no other Dell notebook comes with an 8600M GS. I'm holding my fingers crossed and hopefully i'll get the GT.

Yeah I know they changed the config after only a few hours so I'm glad I ordered right away.

Our Singapore Dell.sg offers the 1710 with 8600M GT. Not GS. How did you get a GS card? Maybe a misprint error. If it offers the GS, I think the Inspiron 1720 and Vsotro 1700 are still the way.

Yes. Dell does make mistakes like those. On Dell.ca they say that Vostro 1510 has s-vidoe out but it doesn't.

So you still have hope that you are going to get the GT :)

I can't wait to find out which GPU i'll get. The 8600m gs will definitely do for my gaming habits but the GT would be awesome. Unfortunately the estimated ship date is June 23rd although I hope i'll get it sooner than that.

Saad88, how long did the shipping for your Vostro 1510 take?
