So I just got my E6400 from the Dell outlet after much delay and I've noticed a few things that have put me off:

First, the computer gets and stays warm during normal web browsing. PC Wizard is reading ACPI: 45.5, and the rest are at 40.0 Celsius.

Second, the touchpad, even at highest acceleration, seems a bit slow.

And third, and probably most crucial, it seems I might have gotten a CCFL display and not an LED like was promised in my specifications list. The Product ID is AUO4047. Also, on the bottom of the notebook is a sticker which has, among other things ("Made in Malaysia"), a little "Hg" that is circled. This means mercury, and this could mean a CCFL display, which I definitely did not want.

    Thanks for any help.

It's very normal for a computer to get warm during use. If you want to measure temperatures, get HWMonitor.

The AUO4047 comes in both LED and CCFL forms. Check your invoice, what it states on there is what you've received.

So the "Hg" on the sticker is there for nothing? I am a little skeptical about trusting whatever my invoice says. Is there any other way to identify my monitor?

    Thanks.

The date for the screen is Week 1, 2007

I wouldn't trust the date code - it would be unusual for 2007 stock to get used in 2009. One way to check for LED backlighting is to look at the power consumption when running on battery. Maximum brightness may be another indicator (my display gets washed out at full brightness). People have also noticed some flicker at minimum brightness.

With the default Windows color settings, I'm not sure I'm getting anything that washes out at full brightness. It does get bright, but I do not have a reference really with any other screen. There are 16 brightness levels. It goes adjusted down for 9 settings, unadjusted, and adjusted up for 7 settings.

    Does that explain anything.

How do I look at the power consumption (is it through some software?) and what should I be looking for?

    Thanks.

I ran Orthos for about 7 of the tests, it ran for about 15 minutes. The max temp reached for ACPI was 71 and the max reached for the two cores was 63 and 64 respectively.

Any help? Is there a definitive way of telling its a LED screen without opening it up?

Now I'm having another problem. If I leave the computer alone for more than 10 minutes, it just shuts off. I have checked the power settings and it is only supposed to shutoff harddisks at 10 minutes and put the system on standby at 15.
