Just curious- anyone still using a Latitude E6400 or E6410?

I was just wondering if anyone is still using the E6400 or E6410? My E6400 was the best laptop I've ever owned (or used) and my aunt still uses it! It was new in late 2008 and still working great (although I replaced the display about three years ago and installed a new SSD last year.

My mom is still using my E6410 (new in early 2011) and it is still going strong. Both are heavy, especially compared to my current E7440. But they were also built like tanks and almost impossible to destroy! Handy attributes in a mobile computer, IMO.

I once dropped my E6400 approx. 8-feet onto a concrete floor. It landed on the front corner (the corner near your right wrist when you're typing) which impacted the display as well as the case/base. Other than a new display bezel ($14) and a small dent/ding in the base, it was perfectly fine. It booted right up after that and it keeps going....

As much as I love my E7440 (and even my 6430u before it), I doubt that either could survive a drop like that.

Just feeling a little nostalgic and thought I'd post....

Dude some guy got rid of his E6430 in out IT department, so IT could do whatever they wanted with it. They threw it down the stairs and hit it with a van... Still works. Latitudes are tanks.

I passed an E6400 on to my toddler son ... he pounds on it, crawls across it, walks on it and drools on it ... I think he ate the trackpoint, but other than that it's fine.

I recall once commenting that dropping the E6400 / E6410 on a floor was more likely to damage the floor than the computer (and definitely very dangerous to drop on a foot). I think it it was my E6410 which was accidentally ejected off an airport X-ray conveyor onto a marble floor. There was a noisy crash and the computer suffered a small paint chip on a corner.

Never really liked the E6400. Coming from D630/D830s, I felt they were flimsy, and the plastic pieces on them were prone to breaking. The E6400 still used DDR2 which made upgrading beyond 4gb prohibitively expensive. Build quality and ruggedness were poor compared to the Dx20/Dx30 series. And lots of them had throttling issues.

They finally corrected the quality issues in the E6420 (ie: Sandy Bridge) line. But went with that stupid red trim stripe which finally was dropped in the E6430. The full-sized keyboard they put into the E6520/E6530/E6540, though, was quite unfortunate.

So basically it took the E6440 to make me interested in the Latitude line again.

To answer the question, yes, my mom still has an E6400. It sits on her desk.

Yeah, we still use my a E6410 as the spare machine for kids and guests. Running just fine on Windows 10.

I had an E6500 I used to use as it was my last machine with a really nice 15" (1920x1200) screen. Haven't used it at all in the past year, so it never got upgraded to Windows 10. Never had a 14" one of that generation -- went straight from D630 to E6420 for my own main machine.

That's funny, but you're right! It's kind of like dropping an anvil onto the floor....

I held onto my E6410 because it was the last 14" Latitude with a 16:10 display aspect ratio (1440x900 on mine). I actually bought an E6420 but returned it because the 1600x900 (16:9) display annoyed me. I ended up giving in and getting a 16:10 when I bought my 6430u (1600x900). My current E7440 is the first laptop I've ever had with a 1920x1080 display. I am much happier with the 16:10 display in full HD.

lol I dropped an E6410 on my foot once, broke two bones, and I was wearing shoes! Notebook was fine, not even a scratch or dent. My boss laughed pretty damn hard before getting someone to take me to the doctor's.

1600x900 and 1920x1080 are both still 16:9 -- they just are higher resolution.
There used to be 1920x1200 16:10 displays, which were really nice. :D
