I would really like a m3800 or a m4800 with a QHD+ screen but the cost of both is keeping me away.
Would I be able to install the QHD+ screen in the m4700? Then I get the awesome screen in a payable laptop.

I doubt it, but maybe. You'll probably have a pretty hard time finding the screen as a spare part, though.

Given that Optimus is not an option with the QHD screen, then if you currently have Optimus, that may indicate it's not possible.

We need someone to check what connector is used for the QHD+ display in the M4800. It's likely that — if this was even going to work at all — you'd need a M4700 with a motherboard that has the eDP port, that works with the IPS display (which uses a different connector than the regular display). Those are hard to come by as the IPS display M4700 was discontinued shortly after it was introduced, due to quality issues with the screen.

I though about the same thing, except that I already own a m4700.

Surfing and surfing and figured both the m4700 as well as the m4800 use the same 40 pin connector on the motherboard so m4700 FHD to m4800 FHD is (connector-wise I mean) possible.

With that said, and based on this post by forge64 on http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/m4800-owners-thread.736032/page-69, if m4800 FHD to m4800 QHD+ is possible without a motherboard (meaning the connectors are the same), then one can imply that m4700 FHD to m4800 QHD+ is also (again, connector-wise) possible.

We may need to change the whole assembly in order to achieve this. I will keep checking around to see if this is possible, so far I think is connector-wise possible but i'm not sure about the hinges and stuff.

If any of you find anything preventing or allowing this huge upgrade let us know here please.

    for the m4800
    QHD+ have 1 motherboard sku
40 pin LVDS FHD have 1 motherboard sku
There is a new edp FHD board with new sku.

The qhd+ use 30 or 40 pin edp, there is no such socket on the 4700 board.
Unless someone know how to solder say a 50pin edp(from the PC m4700 board) to 40pin edp or lvds to edp convector, no.

You're right, I only counted pins, however some 4700's shipped with eDP ports for the ips screens, those may be in luck.

The QHD+ M4800 has a different motherboard that does not route the dGPU signals through the integrated graphics (meaning no Optimus). Based on that, if the M4700 has Optimus enabled on both motherboards, this upgrade is probably not possible.
