Agree with this one, in fact I've had to do this with some rather new machines to avoid audio issues. The Microsoft-stock driver is just called "High definition audio device" and Microsoft is the issuing company.

Weird, I uninstalled the display driver in device manager, which made my screen black, then I rebooted and the screen was all messed up because there was no display driver (just low res), I right clicked and did search online for a display driver and it worked great, I had a complete range of brightness, but now its back to just the same amount of brightness as it was before! Very annoying! I disabled adaptive brightness so I dont know what else to do. Cant uninstall and reinstall each time. Ugh.

Just from memory, but wasn't the "High Definition Audio Device" the audio for the HDMI port? On my E6520 this driver came bundled with the nVidia/Intel driver.

No, "High definition audio device" is the name for Microsoft's generic audio driver these days. I don't think the "high definition" refers to video, but audio .... there's a such thing as "high definition audio" as well.

The HDMI audio output should up as a separate device (maybe only visible if the HDMI is actually active). On my machines it mentions NVIDIA specifically in the device name.

regarding the touchpad (and generally other drivers), what worked for me: downloaded driver id#: A13-R250328: http://www.dell.com/support/home/ca...W764&productCode=latitude-e6400&categoryId=IN , but then it did not work at first. This driver is saved at dell\drivers\6TV08. Go in there and check or or change the DellTpad.exe and Apoint.exe to Windows8 compatibility mode.Cllick on it > Properties > Compatibilty tab > "run this program in compatibility mode for": Win8. When I originaly check on it, it was by default in Vista mode.
