I am too close to getting an E6400 or E6500...

And for some reason, I am convinced that I want the BLUE one, which only comes wiht the Nvidia which I do not need and the 1440x900 LED screen. I do want LED screen big time, but I am not sure about the hi rez as I am 56 and eyes are old.

I am a laptop nut and have a perfect Lenovo T61 but I like the Esata, LED, and the possibility of gong all mobile with no desktop and a docking station. I do not travel much and would love a 15.4 screen, but I do intend to demo some stuff at client offices and if I do would then need to bring it with on a daily basis. SAuch decisions.

I am counting on premium build quality. Even though I do not bang it around I consider this very important. Also, I have lucked out wiht all my laptops in that they are quiet. And quiet is VERY important to me. I have seen a thread here with a E6500 with a loud FAN. I get the 3 year NBD just for this type of thing.

I would be selling my Optiplex and Lenovo (like used 10 times) to help finance this. And the Optiplex is the best computer I have ever had. I just really like the idea of being mobile. I think I am weird. And I like the idea of the excellent power of the E64-6500. I would be going 64 bit Vista.

My old eyes have been very happy with the WXGA+ screen on my E6400. I think the fact it is bright and have good contrast helps.

As I have noted elsewhere, I think there is something wrong with the noisy E6500. I need to be in a completely quiet room to hear my E6400.

Did you phone Dell sales and ask if you can get the blue with Intel graphics via a phone order? There are more customisation options than we see on the website.

My dad is 50 and he can read the WXGA+ LED screen fine, and it's a pretty nice looking screen.

 

Yes, I actually did call them and they only have the blue in the one version. Yeah, I figured there was an issue with the loud E6500. The LED screen is something that I would really appreciate, and the backlit keyboard is way cool too. I priced out the 6400 all different ways, and without the BLUE, it is about 1300. With the BLUE, about 1500. Same with the E6500.

No one else here will have the BLUE, so it will get the attention I want for my business. I am looking into some sort of a reseller agreement with Dell. Heck, I recommend them so much I should get points

I have looked at refurbs on Ebay for around 7-800. Only thing is, I figure if I wever have to sell, and traditionally, this HAPPENS ALOT , the 3 year warranty really adds value.

And I will call Dell and see if they would throw in a couple more GB;s of RAM or a docking station to help me make up my mind if I do get that far

 

John is right. They'll do it if you call. I was ordering my E6400 yesterday, but wasn't able to get the exact options that I wanted on the web site. I called them up and not only was the Dell rep able to get it configured exactly the way I wanted, but he was also able to get me a much better deal than what was on the website. Definitely call them, and you'll get the WXGA LED that you want.

 

Thanks for all your input. Here is the one I am lookng at. Funny, it was 80 dollars cheaper an hour ago. There is a 40 special not mentioned, but it was STILL 80 cheaper an hour ago.

I find the Canadian Dell website is way more expensive than their competitors when you spec out machines.

Call them for sure. I got my laptop for significantly less than the website price.

 

Well, I went and did it. They did give me something off, more or less a free deluxe docking station. It is taking a long time to build. I bumped up the RAM which I really did not mean to do. But this will be my main machine, and figured one les thing to do as I am transferring my business to it. Man, I hope I am happy with it this was kind of a big step.

I hope you will be happy. I was just looking at the Dell UK site and noticed that the colour choice is independent of GPU type.
