Because the cpu suddenly down clocks, even on high performance and plugged in, and then everything slows down...and its getting really frustrating...any ideas?

Using an E6400. Thanks in advance!

Check temperatures using HWMonitor. Maybe your CPU is overheating.

i just checked, while playing for a few minutes my max temps were

    ACPI: 64
    CPU0: 58
    CPU1: 61
    HDD: 37

However, the slowdown did not happen at those temps...it happened at

    ACPI: 48
    CPU0: 43
    CPU1: 41
    HDD: 37

Are you sure the CPU is downclocking or does it just get really slow?

actually maybe it DOES have something to do with over heating...i did notice after you asked that it slows down after the fan has been on for a while...is it possible that since im using the X4500 and there is no thermal sensor for it (at least individual one) that its overheating but i just cant tell based off of HWmonitor?

im not even sure that its the CPU...although it is at 800mhz right now, which is low for full performance (go figure, it should be 2500mhz since its set to 100%/100% min/max), its running fine, but the fans are on off/low.

Try shutdown your computer and start it up again and then check the speed. The CPU (if it is throttling) will continue throttling until it is turned off. Very odd that the game is playing fine at 800mhz though..

ok, this time lets see what happens. maybe it was fine at 800mhz because it really was higher since i had it on balanced, then it mustve idled quickly when i exited.

although i have used high performance and it hasnt changed a thing, i will try again.

what i dont get is why, when on high performance at idle (while not having played the game for a while) if its at 100%, does it say core clock ~1600 mhz but for throttle it says ~2500...which is the one i should be reading?

ah! it slowed down, even when it was on high performance, going into it at 2500mhz...back at 800mhz.

    Which program is that?

    What was the peak temperature?

RMclock. the peak temp. was 66C for ACPI, about the same for the others listed above.
