I actually found them and spoke to them myself, and they said that it should be the same cable as they don't have a different motherboard part number for 4k vs FHD.

This screen is already so much better than my m6800 though. Is the 4k really that much better again to be worth the extra cost and hassle?

Yeah, from the looks of the two possible cables that I linked to earlier (UHD and FHD cables) it is the same connector at the mobo for either display cable but the 4k has larger connector at the display end of the cable than the FHD cable.

Not having had 1080p in this model of laptop I can't give a comparison opinion. But I'm very happy with having 4k 17" laptop. Works great for Farming Simulator 17 in 4k while in my hotel and travelling (ha). Without going into all the obvious pros and cons of UHD or FHD, I'm happy having 4k.

Well, the ribbon cable has been ordered and will be in Wednesday if not before. I'll let everyone know if it's a success or not so anyone else interested can have a definitive answer.

Well, good news guys. I can report officially that the 4k screen is a simple drop in replacement for the FHD screen on the 7710, provided you also obtain the different eDP cable. The laptop booted to a black screen the first time I powered it on, but after powering it off and then back on, it displayed windows normally. I have a little bit of backlight bleed at the bottom, just to the right of center and I'm not sure if this is normal or not, but I also had a little on my FHD panel as well. Should I try another panel or will they all likely be this way?

The backlit KB is also a drop in replacement for the non-backlit one.

    @TriBeard
    Congratulations on your success.

These panels seem susceptible to backlight bleed if pinched near the bottom edges. I don't know if this is unique to the AUO B173zan01 or if all the panels exhibit this. Mine has some backlight bleeding in same areas. It might be where the assembly or bezels clip/attach. I notice it on mostly all dark images with brightness on high but otherwise I don't notice.

I wonder if there are newer panels used in the 7720 and if they would be any better.

Upgraded to Win10 Creators again after rolling it back last month. This time no issues. The issues last time I tried Creators must have been from conflict with display driver. Clean installing the Nvidia driver in switchable graphics mode Per Aaron's post seems to have been the solution for me. Also, Vmware came out with Workstation Pro update 12.5.6 just recently which is said to support Creators Update.

Not specific to 7710 or even to Dell Precisions but something that bothered me in recent move to Win10 Creators Update...
Windows Defender in Creators Update will display a yellow exclamation in notification tray on Defender icon if Cloud Based Protection or Automatic Sample Submission is disabled. I prefer not to enable those but I also don't want a false negative in my notification tray if they are disabled.

Adding this regedit Key and these two DWORDs disables those "features" while still keeping a green check mark in notification tray

I think my Win10 Creators environment is about perfect as I can expect it to be now :). I still get a yellow exclamation if I have brightness on full though :(

It seems you guys both have igzo UHD screens. Do you happen to know the exact model of the screen from AIDA64 or whatever you've got? I've got m6700, I read a lot on laptop and that's the main reason I want UHD. I'd like to hear your thought on whether it's worth it and your model numbers, please. Thanks

My 7710 was purchased in Feb 2016 from Dell with this display:

I'm not a photo or video editor though I sometimes play around with such. I am a software developer. I love the display and it gives me a lot of desktop workspace for my programs tools. Right now I'm at native resolution 3840x2160 and at 150% scaling in win10 which is equivalent to a 2560x1440 desktop. The only con might be some back light bleed when full brightness on black screen and in a dark room, bleed can be seen in lower bezel frame area that some have mentioned but doesn't bother or affect me any. Seems to be caused by some pinching from the bezel frame on the display

Any ideas why my 7710 might be running at only .44 GHz after waking it from sleep? It is plugged in and nearly fully charged and running as "High Performance" power option.

I started noticing this yesterday morning when I awoke it from sleep. It corrected when I rebooted. Then I put it to sleep at end of day yesterday and now it is doing this again when I awoke it from sleep.

What might I look at to possibly correct this behavior? I'm considering a fresh reinstall of OS since I was having some issues previously going to Win10 Creators Update (I've since rolled back to 1607).

    Thanks

*EDIT: Here is how it looks after a reboot

I'm not 100% certain but I think this was because of setting in my Advanced Power Options. I had it set to allow Minimum CPU Power to run at 5% when on battery and Maximum CPU to run at 50% when on battery. I believe that maybe when I awoke it from sleep, even though it was now running on AC Power, it may have dropped to a much lower or min CPU Power setting. I've since increased the min to 80% and max to 100% when on battery. I'll see if that made a difference next time I awake it from sleep. I think I changed these values about a week ago as I was experimenting with power saving features and that may have introduced the problem.
