I hooked up two LG 34UC88-B wide screen monitors (3440 x 1440) to the 7710. I am using a TB15 with mDP and HDMI. One note on this TB15 is the Displayport, port, stopped working when I had three displays hooked to it. This happened on a couple other TB15s (I think something in it fried). The mDP and HDMI seem to work fine.

I had to disable switchable graphics though to get it to wok right. One screen kept blinking on and off. As I type this, I now had bad keyboard lag. I did not have this previously.

Maybe I need to try my older port replicator I used with the M6700.

Edit: I hooked up the eport plus Pro 2x instead of The TB15. Using the Displayports. I still have switchable graphics off. Still getting a little keyboard lag, but not as bad as with the TB15.

Edit 2: Looks like the Keyboard lag is just when posting here with chrome, I do not seem to have the lag in outlook or word. However, I do not recall having this issue with the three lower res displays.

Edit 3: I hooked the TB15 up again. I notice the mouse looks to move slower. Then I check to see the speed the screen was running at and it was at 30hz on the TB15 but with the Pro2X the screens run at 60hz. I did not install the monitor drivers when connected to the TB15 so it shows them as PnP monitors. I did install the monitor drivers when hooked to the Pro2X so I am not sure if that makes a difference. The dell faq does show that the TB15 should run these two at 60hz.

Edit 4: I turned back on switchable graphics and hooked the TB15 up. after a couple reboots it seems to be working. The screens are running at 59hz. I can manually choose 60hz, but the screen started to flash on and off. Also, the keyboard lag is not here. That might have been an issue with chrome and this web site. So it looks like with the TB15 and switchable graphics on, the screens run at 59hz. With switchable graphics off, it is stuck at 30hz. There is a noticable difference. With the pro2X and switchable graphics off, the screens run at 60hz. The Pro2x with switchable graphics on works fine too.

Those of you who have the FirePro W7170M - how do you like it?

Have you tried contacting Dell? TB15 was recalled sometime last month.

I had one under Win 7 Pro but traded it in due to issues with dynamic switching. If you really want one I would strongly suggest you get Win 10, not Win 7.

    Hi Guys ,
I joined specifically so I could ask a few questions concerning the Dell M7710 -
My main interests are photography and watching films - I'm looking for a workstation that is sturdy , well built and will last for the next 4-5 years .
At the moment I have narrowed down my search to the Dell 7710 , PC Specialist's Octane 2 , Alienware 17 R3 and the Lenovo Y70 - I did look at the Lenovo P70 but it's very expensive - I realise the 7710 is not cheap but I could buy a refurbished model .
Do you recommend the 7710 and would you swap it for an Octane 2 if you could ?

Never had the octane, but the 7710 is a very solid and great build laptop. No issues with mine.

Thank you very much for your quick response , Dblkk , much appreciated - I was looking for someone who would recommend the Dell machine as in every review someone or other will have something negative to say about it .
Would you say the 1920 x 1080 screen is good enough for photo editing or would you suggest getting the 4k screen - I'd rather get away with buying the 1920 x 1080 as it's around £400 cheaper but would be willing to go for the 4k if it was worth it .
Do you know who manufactures the 7710 screen ?

I'll have to check who makes mine, I do think that screens are sourced from 2 suppliers so specific machines may very.

I use mine for photo and video editing, and I would sacrifice everything for bare minimum if needed to get the 4k screen. That's just personal preference, I love the added real estate of the 4k, but the color accuracy also tends to increase as well with better panels. A few guys at work have 4k screens but run with windows set at 1080p, just for the accuracy and added "beautifulness" (lol a word?) Of the 4k panel.

You can always swap out screens later if you'd like, but that's much harder than adding ram or ssd after the fact.

I do believe the dell's 1080p screen is a good panel, I can't say for certain though.

As much as I do like my 7710 4k screen, my Alienware 17 r3 4k screen does seem better in every regard. Both 17" and both sold by Dell, so not sure wth is going on there.

Oh, and as for laptop suggestions and for the price. I'd definitly recommend the alienware 17 r3. I got mine at best buy for $1399 on sale and then stacked 2 10% coupons. It's comes with i7 6700k 970m 2x4gb ram, 128gb ssd and 1tb hhd, with 4k (best I've ever seen) display. That's what my main video and picture laptop is. I've swapped the 2x4gb for 2x16gb ($140), a 500gb 950 pro (regretting, it's great but price jeesh), a m.2 1tb sandisk x400 ($300), and a 1tb 2.5" samsung 850 evo ($250).
I really wanted the 7710, but last December when I purchae3d my Alienware, the 7710 didn't have thunderbolt option and my config costed $2799 ish. So went with Alienware, no regrets.
Work just upgraded my laptop, I made sure to stress what I wanted. Which is only reason I got the 7710 (not my pocketbook).

7710 build and such is a notch better than my Alienware, but I still favor my Alienware, don't game on it much (have desktop for that) but that 4k panel is so nice, bight, vivid, it's great.

I have a question about the Dell PremierColor application...when it is switched to sRGB mode does that change persist outside of Windows?

I'm wondering if it is like the Dell Power Manager - when I change the power profile with that application it persists even when I boot into Linux.
