Just transferring data now. It seems well built, no bad pixels that I can see....set up went smooth....love the backlit keyboard like everyone said...but questions:

What vid driver should I be using for gaming? (my tax programs don't care :D

It came with BIOS A09...should I keep that unless something strange occurs?

Here is a bad BB pic...the ex GF ran off (accidentally) with my good point and shoot.

PS for Cin....I'll try and do some better photos :D

For gaming you can try DOX's LV2G custom 180.84 driver, which gave me a stuck 40FPS in L4D and didn't throttle the card when heavy particles had to be rendered.

Dell's stock drivers give about 35-70FPS, less consistent, higher FPS, and usually kicks back the FPS during particle processing.

    Hi,

I'm very interested by this laptop.
Doest it work fine with Ubuntu (or another Linux distribution) ? Does it get hot under heavy gaming ? How much battery life do you get under Mepis vs Vista ?

    Thanks in advance.

I have Ubuntu 8.10 on it (wubi), and for me it is fine.
I'm not using webcam and smartcard, so this hardware is not tested :)
Video, audio, wifi (Intel), lan... - works perfectly.

I'm getting ready to put Kubuntu or MEPIS 8 (debian lenny which is pretty much the same thing basically), but from my linux experience I don't see any hardware problems...broadcom and ATI tend to be the problems....actually, I'll boot up the MEPIS 8 live CD in a few.

PS....Sins of a Solar Empire runs awesome on this thing....:D :D Sounds better too than my Asus, (same external speakers), but I haven't checked the hardware difference, etc.

EDIT: I was really drooling over that X9100...but I guess it pretty fast as it is :D

I have another question regarding the screen:
Which model did you get, Samsung or LG ? Apparently from this review: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=300199, the Philips LG screen appears to be grainy.
How do you find the quality of the LED screen ?

    Thanks again.

Ah....I forgot to check that...let me check

EDIT: OK...hardware ID is SEC5442....I read the review...I've got a Samsung...the screen is great...no bad pixels either (haven't seen any yet) The screen is the 1440x900....bright, clear, not grainy...that Pic I posted is crap :) (I'll get you a better one 'Cin if I can get my camera back!) :D

I can't get a good pic out of this blackberry...but you see the backlit keyboard....my eSata drive was recognized immediately, no bios changes nada..

EDIT: I did a 3 hour run on Sins of a Solar Empire last night and the machine stayed cool and quiet...didn't notice any down-throttling...I'll try a FPS and see....I have bios A09 that came with the machine.

Also, for me, the ports placement is excellent! i.e. audio out, eSata, USB

    Hello
Mine is SEC5442 too. I agree with ElPenguino - the best part of this laptop ;)
