Hi, I guess one place needs to be the first to post :)

I had just placed an order for 3 Latitude D630, but by an error I ordered 4 of them, it does not really matter as I could send it back, but I am not sure yet if I might need it or not as I initially only needed 3 of them.

I was planning to use them for some side training with my company, where I will use these computers to teach the other employees in various programs, like Photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver (I am a Adobe fan), also the office 2007 package as many have not made the transition yet, also some needs the basic of Vista imprinted in their brain so that they may work more efficiently.

I also just love the look of the Latitude computers, they are so plain and not full of lights and useless buttons placed in the wrong places...

I ordered them with what should be ok for one of these computers, here are the specs:

    • PROCESSOR: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T8300 (2.40GHz, 3M L2 Cache, 800Mhz) Dual Core
    • OPERATING SYSTEM: Genuine Windows Vista® Business Service Pack 1, With media
    • WARRANTY & SERVICE: 3 Year ProSupport for End Users and 3 Year NBD On-site Service
    • LCD PANEL: 14.1 inch Wide Screen WXGA+ LCD Panel
    • MEMORY: 2.0GB, DDR2 SDRAM, 1 DIMM
    • HARD DRIVE: 120GB Hard Drive, 9.5MM, 7200RPM (Free Fall Sensor)
    • OPTICAL DRIVE: 8X DVD+/-RW w/Roxio and Cyberlink Power DVD™
    • VIDEO CARD: Intel® Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
    • WI-FI WIRELESS CARD: Intel® 4965 802.11a/g/n Dual-Band Mini Card
    • BLUETOOTH WIRELESS: Dell Wireless® 360 Bluetooth Module for Vista

I am also using a really good solution we have been using for years, the Norton Ghost, after the computers have been set up exactly as I love them to be, I just make a mirror image of the HDD, and if the computer starts to become slow or if a system file is damaged I just put that image back onto the HDD and voila the computer is as good as new in less than 15min.

I am also planning to buy another 5 Latitude computers, but I am not quite sure which ones to buy, as I have really only have had experience with the D630, D531, D530, 131L and 120L computers, anyone got any recommendations? (I would have a budget on about 1.700,00$ on each computer).

    Thanks, WaRake.

why not get more of the same? it'd guarantee compatibility in terms of accessories (docks etc), power supplies and more.

yea thats what i was thinking, unless you plan to buy a LOT of new latitudes...so the D series you have would be the few exceptions

Well theese new ones would be on a other department in the company so it does not have to be the same, and they need to be a bit up there with the high end computers.

If you stayed with the D630 line, then you could still use your ghost image for any rebuilds on the laptops, plus just as whizzo mentioned parts would be compatible.

I myself had recently upgraded from a D630 which I liked a lot to the new E6400, which I like even more. Its a pretty sleek lappy if you get a model with the bells and whistles. The E6400 should easily fit into your budget including the dock.

    EDIT: That E6400 looks nice.

for the 15 inchers or the 14 inchers?

they both really are quite the same, in terms of port placement and build quality

I'm guessing I will go for the 15" as they won't really be carried around allot, and that 1" is not anything to cry about, if they do I will make them go exercise ;)
