Did it. Pulled the trigger on the 32gb MTRON.
Paid a bit more for it, just to get the ZIF2 version. Being a bit thinner, it would probably be easier to install. As a bonus, the drive comes with the adaptor for free.
Thanks to ricoFR69 for posting the pictures of the assembly.

Hi. Finall i have bought the Mobi3000 Mtron SSD 1,8" and the zif-connector mentioned in the link above. I am just wery curious how to know which cable belongs to what. I can see that one cable is blue in both ends, and one cable is white and blue. I really can't tell the difference of the thickness of the cable. Rico's picture tells me, that i should use the cable with the blue and white ends, but how can one find out which cable to use?
In my eyes, the cable are wery much alike, and the only difference i can tell, is the colorfull ends.

    Regards, Rune.

So far, so good. The Mtron drive and adaptor fit into the Toshiba bay with room to spare. I'm now in the process of reloading XP via my Dell recovery disk. 30 minutes to go. I'll keep you posted with my findings.

Can you please do a HDTune or CrystalMark test when done? Should be good to see. Thanks.

By the way where did you get the Mtron from?

    The seller is http://stores.ebay.ca/Mobile-Life-with-KORIS-CO
    Top notch seller, from Korea.

The install was uneventful. The only problem I ran into, was the lack of drivers in the install disk. I had to go to the Dell site with my desktop and copy all the drivers needed.
XP loads in approximately 30 seconds now. It used to take 10 minutes before.

    What about CrystalDiskMark?

It would be interesting, as it tests random 4k writes, which are known to be weak point of many SSDs.

Very good, thanks! It looks as good as my E4200's MLC. You have just gotten a new lease on life with your X1.

You can see 4K writes in the second image that jefkom posted. They look better than my Samsung MLC (about 8MB average).

jefcom: I would love to have the upgrade you described. Would you be willing to perform the same upgrade on my X1? I would send the computer and the Dell Recovery Disk. You would just let me know what the parts cost, what you would need for your time, and what shipping back to me cost. Please let me know.

    Tony

Tony, it isn't that big of a deal, the instructions are in this thread. You just need to be willing to open up your laptop. If you can upgrade the RAM yourself, you can probably do this. OK, it's slightly more complicated than that, but not by much.

What do you think, guys? Am I right?
