    Looks like catalyst control center was the only component upgraded, the driver files are all the same date.

    Well I didnt read the entire thread but the m4600(specs in sig) with all dell factory drivers (that come on the CD) has been running for over 2 hours and still has over 60% battery life. Granted Im just surfing and coding, but still alot better then the quotes I got.

    Hello,

    i ve got the same problem. I have my E4600 from 3 weeks and this problem showed about week ago. I dont remember what i did... but ive tried to reinstall ATI DRIVERS... still my problem looks like this:

    When im on battery the video performance is so low that i cannot watch even a movie :((( The same in simple games - framerates drop down so much it is not possible to use it on the battery :(

    When im connected to AC after 5 minutes fans starts to work for 2-3s for every 1-2 minutes... and after 30min it makes me mad :(((

    Does anybody have any idea what happened? In the begining whole system worked without any fan work and with more performance on the battery...

    Should i call DELL NBD support? :(((

    I just got my M4600 and I'm having the same issue. Did a Google search and found this thread. Nice to know this issue has been around awhile and Dell just keeps shipping out jacked up notebooks.

    What I did not see mentioned in this thread is this fan spins up to full speed every time I watch flash video on the web. I had to turn off GPU acceleration in the flash settings to get it to stop. According to GPU-z the GPU idles around 56 deg C; any load on the GPU drive the temp to > 58 deg C which kicks on the fan, and by 60 degC it sounds like a hair dryer. This is really turning me off of Dell. Anybody found a solution yet? Did other experience the flash video issue?

    </frustrated>

    The problem I have is exactly what you describe and I don't think I can "make peace" with this on/off fan.

    Did you find a solution?
    Have you considered getting a Nvidia video card?

    I had considered it, but the ATI card is actually the superior card in terms of performance.

    Additionally, buying the the Nvidia as a part had outrageous prices where I found it. Not to even mention that I couldn't find the part anywhere reputable. Everywhere was a back alley website of the internet. If someone has found a better source, I might be enticed.

    I should point out that the annoying fan behavior seems to happen with any card. A coworker of mine has the Nvidia 2000 card, and still gets the constant spin ups. Changing the card out would be helping battery life though, in theory.

    Thanks for the info. The only reason I would get the nvidia card would be the on/off fan issue.
    So it's good to know the nvidia card might not fix this.
