I've experienced this as well. It was working fine for a couple of days then when I turned my laptop on, the preboot didn't ask for fingerprints but a password.

When the WAVE GINA pops up, all it says is "Device closed." A dell technician already replaced the fingerprint scanner, which solved the problem for a few days. Then the problem cropped up again.

my E6400 always hang in the windows login screen from sleep mode.
after i resume from sleep mode, the preboot manager did ask me to swipe my finger, and the fingerprint reader did work and let me go into windows, but somehow seems the Wave program cannot pass on the login information to windows... everytime have to restart....

the only thing i can do is disable password requirement for standby/sleep mode, since the preboot manager is there... at least a secure thing i thought...
