So I just got my E6500 with the FISP fingerprint scanner, how do you use it? Grant I've hand it 2 hours only.

I don't have the FIPS (UPEK Touchchip?) fingerprint reader, I have the AuthenTec swipe reader.

Your machine should habe arrived with Dell Embassy Wave Security Suite installed, you can enroll your fingerprints (you'll have to set a BIOS password first) and then set the system to replace the GINA with a biometric enabled version so you can login via fingerprint instead (or as well as) password.

Thats what I figured. How can I find out if I have the Dell Embassy Wave Security Suite install. I have seen anything of the sort yet.

Start, Programs, Dell Controlpoint, Security Manager, Advanced, Embassy Security Center.

Enroll your finger prints *before* you enable biometric logon and then reboot.

Mine always says "Device Closed" and it won't do anything. I've tried installing & re-installing the driver and all with no luck. I really don't like any of the Dell software or the Embassy Wave stuff, all seems sort of buggy to me.

    Have you installed "everything"?

(including the Dell Security Device Driver Pack, Dell ControlPoint Security Manager, Dell Embassy Trust Suite by Wave Systems, PDADRV driver, broadcom USH CV driver etc)

I did notice that the Broadcom Credential Vault software for the fingerprint scanner comes with its own CVGINA.DLL, but this doesn't get used, instead the WAVEGINA.DLL is used. I wonder if there is a way to use the CVGINA.DLL and avoid so much extra baggage from Embassy Wave Suite?

An internet search for CVGINA doesn't look promising in terms of getting any clues, but does turn up a few NSFW sites about female body piercing :)

If I'm using the fingerprint reader to logon to the machine when it has just been booted, or when the machine has been locked, it works very well, but it seems to misbehave about 1/4 of the time after hibernate or standby, you get the USB unplug/hotplug sounds (which might be from the fingerprint reader, or maybe the bluetooth/wwan devices) sometimes the fingerprint reader responds to the first swipe (it changes from saying "slide you finger" to "remove your finger") but doesn't log in, sometimes if you press cancel when the Wave dialog is redisplayed the reader says "closed", othertimes it says "connect a reader")

Once or twice the Wave dialog has hung, while the machine isn't crashed you have to power it off as you can't get logged in.

    Anyone else seeing these problems?

Also has anyone tried anything with the RFID reader yet, it doesn't seem to show as a device, presume it's something related to the keyboard driver that geys loaded in the security driver pack?

I get the same behavior from my M2400. When the computer wakes from standby, it will always say device closed on the logon screen.
What I do is I wait for a few seconds while the device closed message changes to connect fingerprint sensor now and back to device closed as I get the device connect/disconnect sounds. Then I simply press enter without entering a password and the wave dialog usually lets me swipe my finger then. (Sometimes a dialog box pops out telling me to swipe my finger). A lame solution that doesn't work all the time. Hope this gets fixed pretty soon.

Check your firewall programs. It is common that those are the culprits of blocking the fingerprint reader.
