Hi all, hopefully someone can help me, i have been trying to figure this out for a week with no luck and even no luck through dell. I have a new latitude e6400, i originally set my fingerprint, then decided to clean install vista 64 bit, after tons of problems, i then abandoned the effort. Went back to the original vista business 32 bit, however, everytime i turn on my computer, during pre-boot it asks me to scan my finger to get access to my computer, i just want to disable it, but it will not let me, i went into security setting in dell control point, and in that funky embassy software, i cannot find a way to disable the finger print reader, i dont want to uninstall just disable, any insights?

I tried those, i even tried to disable the fingerprint reader in the device manager, but it still prompts for a fingerprint when i turn my computer on. Anywhere specific in the bios, when i went in there (in the security area), i did not see any option to disable the fingerprint reader.

It is definitely in the BIOS. I don't have that E6400 with me now, but I had the same problem, and had to disable security in the BIOS.

With my D630 and fingerprint reader, it too was asking for my FP even though I had disabled the TPM. If the E6400 has it, try turning on "password bypass" or smth in the BIOS.

The best way to remove the preboot authentication is to REMOVE all your fingerprints from the system. This is not ideal but the most failsafe method. Removing the fingerprints from the CP Embassy Wave Suite also removes preboot authentication.

I have removed all fingerprints, none are registered, but somehow, maybe from a previous installation it is still remembering that fingerprint, but the frustrating thing is i have no way to disable it, it seems like all options show that it is already disabled, and i was thinking the BIOS would do it, but i have looked around in the security portion of the BIOS and do not see anything to disable it...maybe i am just not looking in the right place.

Maybe i am just not very bright, but where do you access "password bypass" or smth in the BIOS, i went in and looked, but could not find this option.
