Congrats! Can't wait to hear your impressions of it once you have it. On that note, Greg, I see that yours has shipped this week; any initial impressions you care to share?

    p.s. What's a "Travel lite module"?
p.p.s. Did either of you get an E-port to go with the laptop? This is something I'll probably end up getting, on the basis that I wouldn't want to have to do more than one plug to link the laptop to the cable modem, monitor, printer, keyboard, etc....
p.p.p.s. +1 rep to you both!

No dock for me, someday perhaps, but I currently have few peripherials to connect. At the very most it would be a USB keyboard, USB mouse, speakers. and thumbdrive For me, that isn't enough to warrant a dock. Once I get my monitor/TV next, the situation could be different.

The travel light module replaces the optical drive with a hunk of plastic to fill the space, it saves weight and having the drive disconnected reduces power drain very, very slightly.

No impressions yet, I got a phone call telling me to expect the laptop on Tuesday. Two days from the "shipped" date to delivery isn't true in Canada unfortunately. (though Purolator won't give your laptop to your neighbour, a person who is walking by your house, or leave it on your doorstep.)

    I can't wait though!

Ok, question for all you that got some nice discounts.
First off are you paying in full for the units or financing/leasing? Wondering if the cut more deals if you go one way versus the other?

Do you have Business Reps that you talk to that service your companies already? Where I work they only deal with HP and if I want to get a E6400 I am on my own. So can I call the Small Business group and expect the same levels of discounts if it just this one time laptop purchase?

BTW - started a chat sessions with a Business Rep today, explained how I want to get a E6400 but that I was a bit concerned as the same model from the US site is $300 less and a competing T400 right now is almost $500 less. Was there any chance to get a discount or do some price matching. Guy came back after about two minutes to tell me "No, web price is best price". I went, "Ah, ok". Click - he ends the chat. :)

No big company for me. I'm actually a 16 year old and I got my dad to order it through the Small Business website as we have for our past 2 computers.

It really depends on what rep you get. It was an outright purchase as well, been saving for a year now.

Oh and sorry I've missed that question of yours.

The Travel Lite module is the placeholder for the DVD burner. Honestly in the 2 years I had my Clevo I never have burnt a DVD. It took me 6 months to know that DVD was defective.

So honestly I got the DVD burner because the rep "gave" it to me, but I'll use it only in case of reinstall. It only sheds a couple ounces off the total weight .

    Hey Shawn!

Paid in full from CC. I don't think they'll go higher for a finance. It's not interest free so you should be allowed to best discount possible.

No companies even needed. I have one (autonomous worker), but it's just the 2 segments are totally different markets. One for lower price possible, the other one to facilitate IT department. Finally for this E series, the business side is nicer. Would never have ordered a D. They're ugly ;).

Chat is no good. if you wish, i'll send you my rep's email by PM (don't want him to get tons of spam by puttin' it here). Anyway his name is Ian Wagner and he was nice and patient, handling all my price drop requests. I think he's in Toronto. You'll know when you hit the bottom price. ...Definitely not the web price! You probably got a guy from Dell support somewhere else in the world lol.

    Hey Shawn,

PM me your e-mail, and I'll actually send you the quote that Dell sent me - you can take that as a starting point, go over each component, and make changes as you see fit. The quote is actually valid for 10 days, so you can get the exact same price as I did with the exact same spec.

    Cheers,

    L.

Hey guys - thanks for the info and offers. :)

Talked with Dell today - think I somehow got their Home Division or something. Once again, told nothing they could do to price cut a $1,900 system to bring it more in-line with say my Lenovo T400 config (identical I might add) of $1,400. Why are some of the Dell units SO high in Canada?
Weird... I even told the rep thank-you very much for helping me make an easy choice then. He went on to tell me how reliable a Dell is, 7 point check or some such before shipping. And a Thinkpad is not realiable? I also mentioned that the 1525 my wife go came brand new, from the factory, right out of the box with.... wait for it... a buckled keyboard. :D
