    Hi guys!

I'm about to order a Lat. E6400 today, but eyeing the forums here I just read that there was a cut in the US model. Now the US base price is 879$ while the canadian base price is still a whopping 1214$.

Even with currency conversion it should look more like 950$... There is like a 50$ right now between US web base price and my canadian rep dealt price and it's ok, but just want to know if I should wait a bit.

When did that price cut came alive on the US website?

Well, after going to Lenovo, a similarily configured system is 1440$, but it has only a one year warranty. All in all it's still a 250$ difference.

Call and ask them to match. The rep I called got within $90 of the US price.

It shipped today as well. :)

p_boucher, what do you mean when you say there's a $50 price difference between US web price and your Canadian rep price? Do you mean they are dropping the Canadian price by $400 such that it's now only $50 more than a similarly-configured US Dell price (post-price drop)?

Speedy, did the rep. give you a hard time? With the difference being in the C$400 range, even a $90 difference from US price still means a C$300 drop....

Yup sounds like it. Though it really just means he got closer to the US price and didn't really made a deal.

    All in all I got:
    - 125$ for shipping (that is ridiculous BTW - Eurocom charges 35$ from 20lbs packages)
    - 116$ for RAM (1Gb to 4Gb)
    - 33$ for Ultrasharp screen
    - CD burner for free (do not need DVD burner) (-5$)
    - Free webcam (-31$)
That brought my complete system (see E6400 lounge) to 1598$ and he wouldn't bulge from this.

Then I always take the opposite road and ask to ADD stuff:
    - Travel lite module (heck, I only need a optical drive to install stuff) free (-30$)
    - Notebook sleeve free (-30$)

And then I changed my mind on HDD and got a 250Gb with FF sensor for 110$ instead the 154$ asking price.

Looks like though you can't do anything on the base price, there are some room in the options dept :). I probably could have done better with the proc also, but don't need the P9500. P8400 is ok with me.

So right, adding all rebates incl shipping got me a 414$ discount.

So for everything I pay 1708$.

Oh I was wrong! The same config on US website for everyhitng (incl. accessories) is: 1726$

And Circus, no actually, I talked to a bilingual rep (Ian Wagner not to name it) and god knows that when I am in a dealing mood, I can give any rep a hard time. He was very friendly and replied to all inquiries. Honestly, none of the reps I dealt with in the past 6 months (also went for another desktop and a laptop) were bad. All were very friendly (except one at credit that I could barely understand).

Man, it's inconceivable tigerdirect will sell 2 sticks of 2Gb for 95$ when Dell sell an "upgrade" for 216$. I mean when you stay polite, and get them the facts, stick to a budget, any rep won't loose a sale.

Be patient, and like I did, when they won't go lower, you start to add stuff for free lol.

See the specs in my signature?

    All for $1299.00 + $5.00 Environmental Fee + 13% Tax ($169.52) and free shipping for a total of $1473.52.

That was working out to $1902.92 online. I did get a deal, because I am doubtful that Dell Canada will drop the price much, if ever.

With the exchange, it would have cost more from the States.

Thanks v. much for the insight. Sounds like you both got quite a bit knocked off the Canadian web price, which is good to know. I am not quite in "order" mode yet, but when the time comes, I will definitely arm myself with the info. necessary (i.e. US web price, after-market component prices, etc.) and see how far I get. Thanks again for sharing!

Oh, and the rep didn't blink when I asked him to match it. That's what surprised me most.
