GPU as read from afterburner. The cpu floats around 50-75 while working in Word/Excel with CAD open. I switched back over to the integrated Intel graphics and performance is better.

edit: I should probably add that I'm using the "ultra performance" high fan speed setting in my power options. I just reset it to standard and I'll keep an eye on the temps today while I work.

AMD Catalyst 14.2 Beta Driver for Windows

Try the 14.2 Beta drivers, and double check AutoCAD has been assigned to the 8790M. There's also new Intel drivers floating about if you want to give that a shot too.

Well, just got off what is likely my last Dell support Chat ever. Got the same tier 2 rep again, I advised them that my Lenovo rep, hearing of my dissatisfaction, has made me a competitive offer. He wanted me to tell them about the offer first (so they could decline or counteroffer or something?). Now I'm eligible for a depot service or exchange.

Exchange for an unaffected model? No. Same garbage machine.

I pointed out that this is like offering to replace a car with a broken windshield with a motorcycle that has no windshield at all. It still doesn't address the issue!

Dell remains patently unhelpful, does not want to do anything but have my laptop shipped in circles or deny the issue. I guess I'm a Lenovo user again, their offer is competitive or better on all specs, doesn't have a trash LCD, and has two fans and three heatsinks. What's not to like?

What machine are you going with on the Lenovo end?

They're offering a W540, which is very nice, but as a tinkerer and Linux aficionado, Dell has been the go-to. I'm not sure I want to go with Lenovo and their WLAN whitelists again. I might just call back and take the refund offer, and save up for the next M6800 that hits Outlet.

Edit: I don't know, I'm deeply conflicted. I wrote that, and immediately mentally budgeted to add ProSupport, and then realized Lenovo default support has been better than Dell's good stuff in this case.

Does this one brick the machine again? I might give it a try before shipping it off.
