I was shocked to see the M3800 got rid of the ethernet port. I'm sorry, but that is inexcusable on a "business class" laptop.

I am having an onsite scheduled since I told them the depot option wouldn't fly. Optionally I said they can just send me the parts and I'll do it myself - they have done that on the home side before, but who knows on this issue.

They are having me run the pre-boot diagnostics for any errors. It is interesting to see how much the CPU temps alone jump up in that program. Granted 70c isn't horrible, but for running basic tests in a non-windows environment that is pretty poor.

Only 70c? I hit at least 90+ during the extended test

I ran just the cpu test again and it hit 78. Of course then I realized that this thing apparently throttles the speed at 800mhz if you don't use the 130watt adapter. I had plugged in a 90w I had sitting here for the tests.

Ran it with the 130w and hit 90. Interesting that the video temps keep going up when only the cpu test is done. Bad single fan - bad!

No one hear anything yet? I've emailed 2 service reps that I dealt with in the past and haven't heard from either. Or the Twitter group.

I've got a service call in the works - just waiting for them to call to schedule. Replacing the motherboard and heatsink.

I decided to send my machine back today for a refund. Not worth all the hassle with the risk of throttling even though probably won't really affect me too much for my usage.

Now, to decide whether to try my luck with the M4800 with QHD+ display or just wait it out until later in the year. I'd go for it but the non-functioning Optimus is giving me pause as I may want the extra battery life during the few times a year when I travel.

Hope you guys get a resolution to your issues but, from following this issue, it doesn't seem hopeful due to it being a design defect.

Yeah, the lack of Optimus is the killer for me with the QHD+ screens. Idk if Lenovo is any different with their high res machines or not, but I know it needs an Intel proc with Iris Pro graphics to be able to support Optimus in high resolution. At least, that's what the macbooks use. My under standing is that the Intel HD graphics can't support the high res, thus, no Optimus.

Glad you can still get your money back, good luck finding a replacement machine!

I thought that Optimus works on the M3800 though...

Thanks for the update! I am going to schedule a service call soon too and pray to God that this fixes things. I'm curious, are we the early adopters? I purchased mine in August 2013.
