    1. Yeah, min and max. This is just for when I'm plugged in and gaming. Keeps the clock speed locked.

2a. 99% is essentially the full, non-Turbo Boost clock speed. Setting to 100% will enable Turbo Boost, and allow the processor to hit 3.4Ghz and generate a lot more heat.

2b. Install Dell Power Manager, then use the High Performance profile for normal use. This profile has a min and max of 5-100%. Basically only utilizing higher clocks speed when it needs it.

    3. I experience no throttling back with these "Caps". CPU maintains 2.4Ghz and 2.7Ghz without issue.

    4. Yes, MS Flight Simulator X.

    Turnbull2000,

    Thank you !!! ... I understand now.

BTW, do you like the E6540 ? ....how long have you had it ? ... and would you recommend it for purchase ?
(I am planning on replacing my thinkpad T61 and have narrowed it down to either the E5540, E6540 or the M4800.)

    Turnbull2000,

What "Min" and "Max" Percentages, are you using for - "Normal, Battery Mode" ?

I'm just using the High Performance profile, with dynamic CPU clock speed. You should have the power profile too. Just make sure you have Dell Power Manager installed.

    Turnbull2000;

One last question on CPU profile:

    1. How did you calculate that 95% = 2.4 Ghz ?

.... What is the calculation formula that you used ?
..... OR, did you run some CPU performance software after setting 95% to see what it listed for CPU Ghz, after you set the Power Manager profile to 95 % ? ... If yes, which software pgm ?

I use the excellent Piriform Speccy64, portable version, to monitor clock speeds and temps. I just adjusted the processor % until I got the desired clock speed.

Thanks ! .. nice pgm (speccy).

    Jumbie,

How is your evaluation going between the E6540 and M4800 ? Anymore eval updates to share about these 2 models ?
