Just a heads up for those who want to install a IPS panel in to their E6540 - it appears you need a panel with a 40 pin connector.

I can't specifically comment on this company as I'm in the UK but if any Americans want to try and buy a panel from them could they report back on the panel quality and the manufacturer and model/part number?

Just joined the E6540 club after a bad experience trying to make the Lenovo Y510P work for my needs (Great deal, but too many issues).

Liking it so far and the price I paid is hard to beat. I was a bit miffed to see that they didn't include the expresscard option anymore (Did the ever official even include it?) and wondered if anyone has found a way to add that feature? The spot for the card is there and I'm sure the part has to exist somewhere for either this model or if it is a generic dell part.

Also, I'm planning to get a msata ssd to replace the piddly 128gb ssd it came installed with, but nothing is labeled msata as it has in previous Dell models I have owned.

The E6540 supports mSATA SSD installed in the WWAN slot.

Thanks. That is what I figured, but wanted to make sure.

I know on my model the connector for the battery isn't even attached to the board - just the pinout for the part. Might be different for others.

Is it normal for the fan to run basically all the time even when the machine is just sitting there idling? Seems unusual and rather loud.

No, that's not normal. My machine is often completely silent during light use e.g. internet browsing. Have you installed Dell Power Manager, and checked that your current power profile isn't set to maximum fan use? Is SpeedStep also enabled in your BIOS?

I also suggest you run Piriform Speccy (portable version) to check your CPU clock speed and temps. My current temp is 44c and the clock speed dynamic due to SpeedStep.

My idle temps are in the 60's so that could be part of the problem

    That's very high for idle!

What clock speed is your CPU defaulted at?
