I am cosidering buying a new E6530 as an Ubuntu machine (i5, only Intel HD, FHD Display), as E6540 is not yet configurable and according to a review I read it is not built as good as E6530 and it is also louder and heavier. I also like the old-school look of E6530 more.

The problem is display: I plan to upgrade it for one from E6520 as they are supposed to be much better (elsewhere in this forum this display is considered to be the best: AUO B156HW01 v.4). Am I right thinking the upgrade will not be a problem?

Please, let me know if you know a good Dell reseller in EU (price and service).

    Thanks.

What I read elswhere is that Dell was promising mSata support since E6520, but it got supported only on E6540.

That's what I read as well, a reason I was seriously looking at the E6540. But, like you, it sounded like the E6530 might be slightlybetter quality in some respects (from Notebookcheck.net). I too also like the two tone looks of the keyboard/palmrest, and the top case better on the 6530. But, the 6540 does seem to support mSATA SSD for a boot/programs drive, has a slightly brighter screen, better GPU, and better battery life. I decided a fully loaded E6530 from the Outlet was just too good of a deal to pass up.

Can somebody confirm E6530 would be compatible with E6520's displays? I am about to pay for an ordered E6530 tomorrow and if display turns to be unsatisfactory I plan to upgrade it for the best one from E6520.

I am getting i5 3230 with HD 4000 only hoping to own a good Ubuntu machine with Full HD.

Are E6530's speakers as good as those of E6430's? Thanks in advance.

How well does the "rubberized" palmrest coating hold up and how easy is it to clean? Just got my Latitude today and the coating is a little funky because it just feels like dust and crap will stick to it, but did read it actually holds up/cleans reasonably well.

I now have E6430 and find cleaning palmrest easy using those wet paper tissues used for cleaning lcd screens.

Did your Latitude show up? Was it Outlet, or new?

Hi E6530 owners. I am looking to pick one up for my stepfather from the Dell outlet site, seems like a good time with the 30% off.

Just had a quick question re. the display options. I have read reviews on the laptop, but not seen much mention of the 1600x900 options. As the user will be in his 50's I don't really need the FHD option, but am thinking the 1600x900 might be nicer to use than the minimum.

Any more mature users of the 1600x900 able to tell me how the native resolution looks with text size, and the overall quality? I know you can increase dpi size of fonts, so expect that could make it more user friendly for older eyes.

Also, for future upgrade possibility, can you replace the CPU or is it welded onto the motherboard? If it's not upgradable might make sense to go for a better one for future proofing.

    Thanks in advance!

Looking through older posts about battery charging,...if I leave it plugged in while on my desk, I assume choosing Primary AC Use is the best option with it plugged in? Does this keep the battery charging and partially discharging at a good ratio for battery longevity, or should I be choosing Custom and dial it from 20% to 80%? Also, Pro Support suggested letting the battery totally drain on occasion...is that good advice? Thanks!
