Hello, i just got a e6520 and i find it very noisy.

I have i5-2410m, NVS4200m, an install from freedos of win7 pro x86, BIOS A05, and just a couple of day of use.

Do you have any idea for reducing this noise that makes me headache (because it's a little acute for my ears.)
Thanks for all your answers, because if i don't solve this problem i'm going to resend the computer to dell (i took this laptop becauses test says that it made not really noise).

    edit : i also have the default HDD320Gb 7200rpm

Are you using the laptop on a flat surface? Also, if you use a docking station, it will raise the back of the laptop up, improving airflow below the system.

You can also replace the thermal grease with Arctic Silver 5, which should help after it breaks in (takes at least a week or more).

Have you also tried the "Quiet" setting in the power options?

Are you sure it's the fan? I almost never hear fan noise. The only thing regularly noticeable to me is the HDD. If I'm not doing anything intensive, I turn it on Quiet, which does seem to help.

Even when mine gets really hot, i dont find the fan noise loud/annoying at all. In fact I wish I could figure out how to increase the fan speed so it wouldn't get so hot! Also I have the i7-2720 so that should be hotter/noisier than yours. Perhaps you have a faulty fan? Alternatively maybe you havent installed all the drivers/dell stuff and the fan is running faster than it needs to?

Best guess: GPU on dual core makes more noise?

I have the quad core with GPU and it doesn't really make a whole lot of noise at all.

I just bought a Dell Latitude E6520 with Intel 2720QM and I agree with Captainpatatas. It's really noisy!!! I updated to A07 BIOS and it doesn't seem to solve the problem.

Do you have the Nvidia graphics?

I have a 2720qm with nvidia graphics and they both run constantly (though underclocked graphics) and it is silent.

Fan always on but not much noise with light-medium usage, HDD might even be louder than the fan and generates vibrations..will get a SSD soon. BTW I have 2760 and NVidia running W7 X64.

I have the Nvidia NVS 4200M graphic card. Fan seems to be louder than the 7200 rpm HDD. I don't deal problem with the vibrations of the HDD. 70% of my laptop work load is for internet browsing, and other simple office applications (to read or print a document at Acrobat Reader or MS-Office) and the rest 30% for using CAD programs, but without the need of extended graphics. I usually need text editors to pass the code in CAD programs.

Just got a brand new E6530 today, dual core, with the NVS5200 and it is horribly noisy. I am going to send it back if it cannot be resolved. I've had several Latitudes and they were all silent.
