Well my friend, I use my optical drive for media that is disseminated via DVD at work..... thereby, my optical drive is a necessity and IS used on a day to day operation.

Secondly, have you even removed the bottom cover? There is more than enough space to add in not only the card, but also another sata card next to it.

Thirdly, others have reported that with bios A12, the bios is supposed to recognize an added sata flash card which should show up in the boot menu. Again, im merely tinkering with the idea as i have a couple of regular laptop sata hard drives laying around. If i can get one of them to boot from the sata flash port, then im willing to invest in an actual sata link flash storage device ( likely a 64Gb one ) and use it as my primary drive.

One thing to note though is that the SATA flash port is only half height, where as WWAN slot is full height. Back to this adapter...... the adapter would fit into the half height SATA FLASH spot, and i could wire the full length sata flash card to it, fitting it into the full height WWAN slot.

If so, that would be great. But, so far i understood, people already made the ssd work in the mPCIe slot, but not boot...

A question about your RAM: you had the Samsung card in the laptop, when you bought it? I thought, that Dell uses normally Nanya RAM. The everest shows, that i have Samsung memory, too. Do the two cards from different manufactures work OK together in double channel mode?

I picked it up online after I received my laptop. Everything is up and running in dual channel with no issues. Im attaching all relevant screenshots for you from CPUZ

I did see people had the sata card working but not booting. Im hoping its just due to the type of card they are using. Once i attach an actual mechanical Sata HDD to the laptop, Ill know whether or not a full height Sata flash card will work.

Thank`s, i have the same samsung memory.

I`m thinking about a mSATA SSD for the system and HDD for the files also.

Well, if the Mini Pcie - Sata adapter works, then we should be able to fit a "half Slim SataII" ssd into the laptop.

Used Apacer 32GB Half Slim SATA II SSD Solid State Drive AP-SAFD18DAA032GS-ECM | eBay

Its just a waiting game for the adapter now :(
I did also order an E6500 module adapter to try ( even though i need my DVD reader ). It could come in handy if it works. It doesnt list the E6520 as a compatible model but for $10, its worth the gamble. Ill report back in on that as well.

    How? It`s bigger than mSATA.
    we actally need mSATA:
Solid State Drive OCZ Nocti mSATA SSD 120 GB (0842024028895) | eBay
    better a half-height mSATA:
eBay: Neue und gebrauchte Elektronikartikel, Autos, Kleidung, Sammlerst?cke, Sportartikel und mehr ? alles zu g?nstigen Preisen

But if we could somehow change the WWAN port to a bootable mSATA port, that would be amazing.

I saw both the dual sata pcie link adapter as well as the dual microsd adapter.

The sd adapter would yield slower results as even a class 10 card can't compete with a standard usb thumb drives read/write speeds. If the card I ordered works for USB, it would be easy to add in a thumb drive very cheaply and we have plenty of space to add it in after you pull the drive out of its casing.

The dual sata card is nice but there's one huge factor in why I didn't order one of those. I see no power link . . . . .. I could be wrong though. If there is no power, you would need to solder in a power lead from somewhere which kind of kills it right there for me.

I wish this friggen card would hurry up and get here. Im dying to test it out lol.
If you look at the pic of the one I ordered, it has power + data for both usb and sata devices.
