I noticed the same on a few recent installs as well. In summary, the included CD in the recent shipments is worthless.

Try this one that I found works with my various cards: CLICK HERE

    Scott-

    HAPPY EASTER!

    Hi Scott,

Thank you so much, I have spent hours downloading useless drivers without luck, with your driver it works perfectly!

The expressed card was sold as an AKE (NEC chipset) and tried many drivers from Renesas which did not work. Device manager or HWiNFO64 does not say much about the card.

    Thanks again!

    Chris

erblemoof - you're a trooper. Thanks for your tireless efforts not just on your behalf, but on our possibly misplaced anticipation of having an SSD+HHD+optical setup.... ;)

    If I understand so far:
1.) mSATA will not work in the SATA flash
2.) mini-PCIe now seems to work for storage in the SATA flash with Bios A12
3.) Bootup with mini-PCIe is uncertain at this time.

I wonder if you'd want to try, for grins, an XP install to see if you can get the drivers in there and working? That may at least address the issue of Win7....

You get this working and I'll send you a beer...or cookies! :)

You should choose the cheapest processor you can get, for that usage. Get an i3.

    But:
    - You should get the 1600x900 or 1920x1080 display; not 1366x768.
    - Get 4GB of RAM, or upgrade it yourself (for less cost)

Well for $35 I would go for the i2760 (quad core) which future proof..
For sure go for the FHD (1920x1080) screen, lowest ram and upgrade it later.

    "seconded" :)

processor wise, yes I suppose you could get the $35 more expensive one - this may or may not translate into slightly higher temps, not sure. Again, the concept of "future-proofing" is kind of moot, because if you keep this for 4-5 years, then it's not really going to matter which one you have anyway....

As to the screen, in contrast to other recommendations, I actually prefer the 1600x900 on my e6520. I find the FHD 1920x1080 resolution makes things too small and I wind up having to play with windows 7 pixel resolution and font sizes to "make everything bigger" anyways.... then again, maybe I'm just getting old..... :p

What I did is I bought system with core i5 with 4gb ram and 1600*900 screen.
    With 500 gb disk.

Later on I purchased 8gb crucial ram during black Friday deals,.
    2) I installed the samsung 830 ssd
    3) put the Intel 6300 Centrino card bought from Amazon.
    4) wwan got longest import trail. Czech Republic to India.
    5) will put quad core with new heat sync when need arises

In all this, I managed to save almost 200$

    How's that. :):)

    No, 900p on a 15" is my ideal. Too bad I got 1080 :(

You did get a new battery from Dell, right? Do you find it gives you better life?

I am not sure if I should bother complaining...mine is reading 20% wear, and it's much less life than my E6510 battery, but I'm not sure if that's just the i7 and nVidia graphics eating it up...

    Hi erblemoof,

I posted this yesterday but must have attached it to someone else's reply... therefore at the risk of repeating ranranran...

So I read all of this thread yesterday trying to figure out if I can add a small SSD without giving up my optical drive. Like you I really like the elegant solution of using a small SSD for my OS etc

So you have at least got it partly working? Have you made any progress in getting it to boot and which slot are you using now the one labelled WWAN or SATA FLASH... and btw wth is a SATA FLASH?

As far as I have read and understand
Sata fladh. Drive is just to make use as flash drive for caching purpose.

    Not for installing operating system.
    Maybe i am wrong.
