A combo of installing A06 and turning off Wireless-A have helped a lot. The audio issue is still present, but to a much lesser degree.

I'm still on A05, but upgrading to that from A01, combined with switching from IRRT to AHCI (and I did not have to reinstall Vista to do so) and disabling parts of ControlPoint that I don't use, means that with the wireless switch off, the crackling is completely gone. FWIW, I have the Dell 802.11b/g card, so turning off 802.11a is not an option.

Does anyone know when Dell is going to come out with the new version of the ControlPoint network manager utility that can control the WiFi? I only really play music when at my desk, so if ControlPint were to turn off WiFi automatically when I plug in a network cable (in other words, whenever I dock) and turn it back on when it's unplugged (when I undock), that would mostly solve the problem for me.

There is an option in the wireless card properties that allows you to set it to automatically shut off when ethernet is plugged in.

Is that on the Dell drivers, or the Intel ones? I can't find it on mine (I have the Dell 1397).

I have this popping problem too I just noticed while playing audio in WinAmp. It seems as if it is worse in WinAmp than Itunes, but it is there both places. The weird and funny thing is that it seems like I have no popping problems when playing a music video on youtube. Very weird. I have already installed all those drivers people have talked about so that doesn't seem to be the solution :-s

EDIT: So I installed the Intel Matrix Storage application and drive and the IDT driver again, and now the problem is gone. Whether it was the installation or the reboot that did the trick I, however, don't know. But now the sound seems fine :)

EDIT2: Argh... After taking out the power plug and put it back in again it started again. This is very weird and annoying! I wonder what the reason can be

Several people have reported that uninstalling the controlpoint software and disabling wireless A has alleviated/eliminated the audio skipping issue. Have you tried doing both?

I haven't tried uninstalling Controlpoint software, but I tried disabling the wireless and it did nothing. Also, it would not be very ingenious if I had to disabling the wireless if I want to listen to music. Especially if I want to listen to something online

As for the controlpoint software, will the things (bluetooth, wireless, fingerprintreader, webcam, etc.) work fine if I uninstall the controlpoint software? Are there now downsides to this other than that I would miss out on the battery saving feature?

Funnily enough the problem seems to be much smaller or not existent in Windows media player. Do anyone else have this experience?

Well, I am done. Abandon ship.

Dell Executive Care just processed a replacement for an XPS M1530 for me today. About **** time in my opinion.
