ndawg25, others - If you're still having problems with the latest IMSM 8.8 drivers, can you please confirm that it is due to DPC latency, and that it is due to the IMSM drivers? Use Microsoft's xperf tool to find the module and a stack for what is consuming the most DPC latency. Details are at http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=341918 starting at response #35.

Also, what happens when you turn the Dell 1610 WiFi off, still with the IMSM 8.8 drivers? Are you thinking it is due to IMSM or the WiFi, or that the issue requires a combination of both?

    Ziesemer here are my results:

Please help me understand this! I took two...one with WIFI ON and the other one is OFF... I get much less audio crackling with Wifi OFF but with it on, it's very bad.

    My Specs: E6400 2.4 GHz Windows Vista Business 32Bit, 4GB Ram, Wifi Dell 1510, 160HD, Nvidia 160M. IMSM 8.8, Bios A11

    Hi,
thanks to some posts in other threads of this forum I was able to update some information on crackling audio in my previous summary.
There is a shimmering light in this dpc-latency-dell-wlan-intel-matrix-vista-os-darkness... ;-)

Try doing some heavy disk work while running DPC checker. On my E6400 the latency is reduced by about 50%. It's pretty weird.

copying >1GB from external HD (eSATA) to internal HD under Vista 32-bit SP1 caused my latencies to get just a very little worse but still <1200ms. So I can't reproduce your result (WIN XP I suppose?). This thing is really weird...

Yeah, XP. Hmm... It happened to me while Traktor was analyzing tracks. I'll have to try it with regular file copying.

For everyone who is still having this issue. I called Dell today and they had me upgrade the Intel Matrix software to 8.8. The software is not up on their site yet, but it is at Intel's site. Here is the link: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2101

That update has completely gotten rid of my audio popping and crackling issue. The video issue has only happened once and that was right after I updated. I have been trying to get the laptop to flip out all afternoon (E6500) and it has been working flawlessly. I hope that this will help everyone else that is having issues with theirs.

I updated to 8.8 and it reduced the problem, but I'm still getting a "pop" exactly every minute. Glad that worked for you though!

I ve done clean installation and replaced dell 1397 wireless with intel proset 5300 i got from ebay and all the cracking sounds are gone. However the latency is topped at 1500us once/twice in 15mins. However, it is much better than having cracking sound.

My old thinkpad's latency is top at about 500us. Much better than my new e6500.
