IIRC they asked for a company name, i just used my name again. Don't get super creative as they'll ask for this if you call or chat support.

Thanks. So in that case, I can just tell them I'm an independent consultant? (That's actually the truth, but I don't have a DBA name).

I have been buying from Dell Small Business for years. I just use my name as a company name. There is no application process.

I did the same thing when I ordered my Vostro. The checkout form even says that if you don't have a company name to enter your name again.

Thanks everyone! I'll look into getting an E6420 soon. I have to hear more about how nice (or not) it plays with Linux. The E6410 I have now doesn't impress me with its build quality, especially considering Dell has yet to fix my latch after about four service calls. I'm hoping the E6420 has a better build quality, and it appears that it does.

I called Dell and told them I wanted to buy the latitude as a consumer - with all (european) consumer rights applicable (like the right to return it within x days). They told me this was not a problem, and made me the same offer as on the small-business website. The sale was handled over the phone and confirmed by mail.

I've read plenty of reports of people buying this by just entering their own name in the company field, do note that it's likely you don't get the consumer rights then. If this doesn't bug you, I wouldn't worry about it and order.

That's probably more an issue in the EU.

    Guys,

will standard 9mm 2.5" HDD fit into Dell Latitude e6420 . I am about to replace my current 250GB 5400rpm HDD. I have noticed in manual only information about 7mm hard drives ....

    Thank you in advance

Yes, 9mm will fit into the HDD slot without a problem.

I don't need higher resolution (1600x900 is fine), but if someone found a source for 14" IPS panels which worked in the E6420, I'd be all over that.

My usual recommendation, and what I used to use before starting to order via my employer's premier discount was "MyLastName Consulting"

Yes (standard is 9.5mm, which fits. I've never seen a 9mm drive, but it would fit if you found one.)
