Is anybody running 16GB in an E6420? It looks like it should be possible. The sticks are available...just curious if anybody has tried.

Haven't personally tried it but theoritically all Sandy Bridge laptops support 8 GB sticks per DIMM.

You can find 8 GB sticks for like 180-240 dollars on Ebay/Newegg.

That is what I was thinking, and I know of one person running 16GB in an E6410. Alright, I am going to give it a try. Need more so I can run one more VM, without affecting my root OS install.

Well I did it, and it works great. 16GB of Corsair Value Memory from Newegg for $180 on Black Friday. Installed it yesterday.

I am running Server 2008 R2 Enterprise. But it would work on any x64 OS. The E6420 only has 2 slots, and I am not aware of an 16GB 204 Pin Memory Modules out there. If they exist, they are going to cost a fortune! A few other Dell laptops like the Precision M6600 support 32GB, because they have 4 slots.

Yes, A 4GB and a 8GB will work at the same time. You lose a little speed. Also, make sure the speed of the 8GB matches the 4GB.

I can also confirm 2*8GB works fine with E6420.
