Correct. It frustrate me when I see this.
65% market share are although diminishing quiet rabidly, and a large portion of this market share are computers who are properly XP compatible (older systems), which is perfectly fine.

Sorry for this... it's just that me experience on other forums, suggests that similar setup (incompatible OS) end up wasting everyone's time in trying to help that person. So many times I see people complaining about problems which is related to: sleep/wake-up/hibernate, driver conflicts, performance issues, where that person end up (with suggestion from forum users) to re-install the OS, RMA hardware parts or whole system, dig into system problems, ask for software install list to try and find the problem, replace peripherals, and it end up someone in having the person put Vista or Win7 (some times trial version of either, just to see), and all the problems are solved. Usually it ends up with a more than happy users, especially after noticing the faster response time and performance increase out of the system due to complete hardware compatibility.

I don't mind helping anyone, no mater the OS he or she uses. It's just I hate see people having bad experiences due to not proper configuration choice, especially for an expensive purchase. I guess I care too much of others :(

No problem. The dumb thing is that the system said it came with Win7, but it came pre-installed with XP. I had trouble downloading drivers for Win7 from Dell's site (wouldn't let me connect) after a couple of days so I gave up and proceeded with using XP.

I haven't gotten to the suggestions yet since I left for work as I typed my last one. I will try them out later this evening. It's been at least a week since I bought the laptop so I'm still within the return window if I really need to get a new machine. (14 days is it?)

Ah I hate when Dell servers goes down.
The good thing is that drivers are drivers (for the same system). So try Dell U.K web site, else try Dell Canada. Everything will still be in English, and you have different servers to choose from.
    Canada http://support.dell.com/support/dow...stemID=LAT_E6410&os=W764&osl=en&catid=&impid=
    U.K: http://support.euro.dell.com/suppor...stemID=LAT_E6410&os=W764&osl=en&catid=&impid=

I can't recall, and I don't know if it's different for Dell Outlet. Better call Dell and confirm. Make sure you take a case number, or at least the persons name and time of the call, in the case you get missed informed.

Has anyone had any luck installing the new nVidia 258.69 Beta driver? I have thus far been unsuccessful with installing any drivers from the 25x.xx series, and I was wondering if anyone else had any better luck. I have tried the drivers with modified INF from LaptopVideo2Go, as well as the nVidia Verde drivers directly from the source, but both have given me errors claiming that I am missing one or more of the core components. For the latter, I had to copy the nvdm files and one additional dll file to even get that far, but every attempt has failed.

Efforts with earlier drivers have not yielded any better results. Does anyone have any recommendations, either with these drivers or an earlier set from the 25x.xx series, to get the newer drivers to install? The nVidia 3100m is supported according to the specifications, but in my case, is not readily compatible with the E6410.

Any advice or support is much appreciated.

My cousin is considering getting an e6410 and I was wondering what people think about the durability of this notebook, how common is it that this notebook needs service?

    TIA

The laptop comes with 3 year warranty minimum (well at least in the U.S and Canada), PLUS in Canada, it comes (minimum, you cannot NOT have it), next business day on site service. This should tell you how solid the system is. The technician that comes to your place to fix your laptop , is not from Dell, it's a contracted firm, Dell sends him the part with express shipping, and comes the next day (or any other day you want, at the time you want), to fix your laptop. With that service in mind (if you have it, or get it), I don't think it maters how many service calls you need to perform. Then again, if you don't have it, call to order, and see if you can negotiate that service for free.

My first post, been lurking for a while...

Just ordered mine from the outlet. Couldn't decide between this and the T410,
but decided to give the lower price/easier returned one a try.

    Highlights of the feature list:

    -- Latitude E6410 Laptop
-- Processor: Intel Core i7-620M Processor (4M Cache, 2.66 GHz)
-- 320 GB SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
    -- Certified Refurbished
-- 14.1 inch Wide Screen WXGA+ Laptop Screen
-- Integrated Webcam with digital microphone
    -- Genuine Windows 7 Professional
-- Dell Wireless 375 Bluetooth Module
    -- Operating System DVD
    -- 4 GB DDR3 SDRAM 1066MHz (2 DIMMs)
-- Palmrest with contact-less smart card reader
    -- 64BIT Operating System DVD
    -- 6 Cell Primary Battery, 60W
    -- Back-lit Keyboard
    -- Intel 6200 Wireless-N (2x2) Half Mini-Card
    -- 512MB NVIDIA NVS 3100M
    -- Slate Silver
    -- 8X DVD +/- RW Drive

I was planning to wait for one of those 15% off coupon codes, but when I saw this listed for $619 I had to pull the trigger. Is it me, or did they just randomly drop the prices? I swear this same config was in the $900-950 range just last night. Are they just trying to reduce inventory?

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts/experiences/insights in this thread.

right, the refurbished ones were listed for the $900-$950 last night

EDIT: For curiosity's sake, I just configured this system on dell's site; $1724 base / $1473 with their current deal... I'm sure they could be talked down further, but I'm comfortable saying that I payed half price, at most :)
