I have an E6400 with a P9600 2.66Ghz CPU and nVidia graphics. I was looking at going to the E6410 with the Core i7 and the nVidia as well.

Would battery life be similar under Windows 7x64?

It would be lower, the Core i7 consumes more power, and produces more heat. The performance increase form the CPU is, in my own personal opinion, not worth it.
I would wait for the E6420.

If you need more performance from your Nvidia solution, have a look at my relatively safe (tool provided by Nvidia themselves, where voltage and other specs are set automatically) overclock guide on my signature. Every time I play a fairly recent game on my E6400, I overclock the GPU and the laptop has no problem managing the extra heat (although I do slide a pen under the laptop to improve air flow when I do this, just to be safe). The cool thing about overclocking using Nvidia System tool, is that you can do it all IN windows, using profiles (files with the overclock settings saved in them), which you just double click to load. Default profile is created right after install. You also have some automatic profile loading.. for instance you can say, if the GPU reach xx degree's load this profile and if it's bellow xx degree load this other profile.

Another thing, not related to overclock, is to have a look at Nv GPU Pro, a free donation supported tool that allows you to tweak (among other things) Nvidia PowerMizer (power management) safely. Also you can get detail information from your Windows Experience Index benchmark for your convenience. Tweaking Nvidia PowerMizer (lets' say to be disabled when your system is plug-in, but enabled when on battery automatically), is that it can fix if Nvidia GPU goes under lower power state when you really need the performance, this can result in having poor Aero performance in the case of the E6400, which is fine on battery as you don't care, but plug-in, that is not needed. What separate my tool (Nv GPU Pro) against others, is that my tool doesn't blindly modify the driver configuration settings, but rather scans your system and applies the correct settings based on your GPU and GPU drivers, ensuring that you will not get a Blue screen, or any problem, and success. Also, at every driver series release my software is tested with almost all Nvidia GPU's architecture ensuring all of this. (see my signature: Nvidia Tweak Tool) for more information, feedback from this forum, and of course download.

Anyone with E6410/E6510 in Regal Red be kind enough to post pictures? I've seen Regatta Blue in this thread but not the red one. Of course, both are in Dell's site but it would be nice to see some "real world" examples.. :)

I'm deciding between the Blue and Red. Black would be nice like E6400, but only Silver is available for E6410/E6510...

I'd bet they're real similar. The Core i7 is a 35W cpu vs 25W for the P series Core 2 Duos, but unless you're running at 75-100% cpu all the time, that won't matter.

Don't forget that the TDP on the i5/i7 series includes the memory controller and the integrated graphics on a separate die in the CPU chip. A thorough test by Anandtech demonstrated that Arrandale offers up to a 30% improvement in performance with no appreciable impact on battery. The verdict was that the newer processors achieve greater productivity within the same amount of load time, and thus ultimately tend to fall within a similar power envelope.

This is still quite an accomplishment, and you should be able to expect comparable battery life under similar conditions.

When notebookcheck compared several of the new CPUs, they found that the i7-620M consumed more power although having the same nominal 35W rating.

Subjective reports from forum members also suggest that the i7-620M runs hotter than the i5 CPUs, so the top of the i5 range may be the best option for most people.

You can buy a new OEM Intel 6300 from Babyhemi on this forum for 38 bux shipped...why would you want the 6200?

For some reason I had the impression that the E6400 would not include the third antennae, and had the notion that the 6200 was cheaper. On both accounts, I discovered that I was incorrect. As a matter of fact, I just purchased the 6300 from the aforementioned forum member. Even if it doesn't offer any realizable advantage, I still had a bit of money left over in my budget, so I figured it could be worth it.
