For the record, the FN+SHIFT+[1,5,3,2,4] and FN+R tricks do not seem to work on this laptop. FN+SHIFT+15324 gets the scroll lock light blinking, but FN+R does not open thermal settings page. maybe they removed it for i3/i5/i7?

Or maybe the key combo changed

Where are the "touchguard" settings? I don't see that term anywhere in the Dell Touchpad settings.

When you open Dell's main mouse config screen click on the option at the lower left. There you can set the TouchCHECK (That's the "german" word) settings. It prevents the touchstick and pad from working while typing, so try which sensitivity suits you.
I set it at medium for the touchpad and very high for the stick and I don't have any problems. Besides, there is a newer driver available at Dell than the one that was pre-installed.

My core i7 hovers between 40 and 47C on idle. Not sure why Frapp's temps are so low. Maybe they were measured immediately after a cold boot?

this heat is pretty ridiculous. light browsing for me results in cpu temps of 50-56 degrees. complete insanity; my old c2d vostro did light browsing in the low 30s! I'm considering returning it even though i would have to pay restocking.

no kiddin. my 520m shoots up to around 55-60 by just browsing the internet. i ran a cpu load generator for 10 min. it clocked as high as 85. If core temp is right, then the 6410 gets really hot. don't remember having the issue with my 6400.

Which CPU and graphics in your E6410?

The P8600 in my E6400 (with Intel graphics) also idles along in the low 30's.

It wasnt a cold boot, did some coding for 2 hours. It takes some time to reach temps at the low 30s, 10 to 12 minutes. You see the highs at 56/54C in the screenshot. When i do light browsing the temperature shoots up to 50-55C. You should consider that theres maybe a difference in heat production between the i5 and i7.

It is useful to compare notes on people's CPU temperatures with the different CPUs. Notebookcheck's tests indicated that the i7-620M used disproportionately more power than its less powerful siblings. However, some variation in CPU temperature is to be expected due to production variation but it will be useful to know if the i7-620M consistently runs hotter on idle. GPU type may also be a factor because the cooling system serves both CPU and GPU.
