No problem. We gonna help you figure this out.

    1. Other "chips" you said, so I am assuming you also pack Nvidia gpu there. You CANNOT use thermal PASTE to cover the GPU and the chipset. Paste works for the cpu, but those other chips either need the "Copper mod" (google it real quick) or a thermal pad. The thermal pad, can be devastating if you do not replace it properly, which I think is the case there. It could end up be not snuggly fit or if you had greasy hands. (Techs who come to replace always do this). We really all recommend the copper mod with 0.5mm-0.7mm ones. The heating up of the GPU might be causing the fan rolling up.

You should use realtemp (software) and have it on as you use the laptop. It will then show you the temperatures on normal use and we can use that to determine which parts are heating up too fast. Make sure at the "Settings" of the software, you check the box for Nvidia and it should give you option to check the temp sensor for your GPU.

Also if you just replaced the motherboard, the odds are the bios is not up to date. Make sure to update that from dell.com/drivers

    2. As per your second issue, does it post? (Meaning - the Dell logo show up when you power it on initially or just black screen?)

I can't comment much on that, unless the numlock, caps lock, and security lock lights give you specific combo of light blinking. I am more inclined towards the driver's issue and would recommend re-doing the entire OS and fresh install of drivers, but someone else should confirm this.

    Thank you for response
    1. Do you are saying that "bubble gum" was like copper? Too late for this :-D

    2. No, there is no special LED code, there is no other state than I describe.

Anyone know if Dell blacklist other wlan-cards than the original on the 6410? Ordered a couple of standard Intel 7260 802.11ac-cards......

I have tried a lot of the Intel cards and they are good to go. Dell typically does not implement a WLAN blacklist in their commercial BIOS files and the E6410 should play nice with anything you throw at it.

Questions for those with the NVS 3100M:

    1) Is the Nvidia chip always active, or does it switch between that and the Intel ('Optimus' or whatever)?

    2) Are there scaling options configurable via the Nvidia drivers, most importantly; is there a 1:1 pixel mapping mode so that you can display smaller resolutions (eg. 1024x768) on the laptop screen without distortion - ie. I want it to put black borders around smaller non-native resolutions.

    3) ^ If anyone could answer the same question, but for the Intel graphics I'd be grateful.

    4) Also, what resolution is the SEC5442 panel that causes the flicker issue - if I purchase a different resolution to that, will I be guaranteed a non-flicker unit, right?

No, no, no, and no. It's been years since I've seen 1:1 pixel mapping for lower resolutions, and the flicker issue is not isolated to the Samsung panel. I have it on my AUO.

    Hello,

    I recently purchased 4GB Corsair CMSO4GX3M1A1333C9
My old bars (1GB + 2GB) CL7 operate while new work by CL9 (and with a higher frequency).
Unfortunately SPD profile seems ignored by the machine (even after reset the BIOS by removing the battery), which continues to use the CL7 (according Memtest). This leads not so far because Windows can not boot.

Any idea how to how to force CL9?
I already sent a believer default but it seems the new pose the same problems.

    Thank you in advance.

Just purchased a nice config E6410 today. I hope it's as described by the seller.

    1440x900
    i7-620M
    NVS3100M
    8GB RAM
    500GB HDD (unsure of rpm)
Unsure of 6 cell vs 9 cell.
    Backlit keyboard.
    $375

Any comments on price? Any suggestions on what to check for when it arrives?
