    Hey all,

Just a quick question--what do you have to install to set up the privacy screen feature on E6400s with dedicated graphics? I thought I saw it in the DCP when the notebook first came with the manufacturer install, but now I reinstalled every aspect of it that I could find on the driver and utility disk, and still nothing.

Now, my DCP has 4 options--System Overview, Power Manager, Display and Device, and Security Manager. In the Security Manager, I only seem to have options for the Fingerprint Reader and the Trusted Platform Manager (and I have no idea what the latter is). Can't find a Privacy Screen feature anywhere, and the Fn+E shortcut doesn't do anything either.

Anyone know what I should install?

    Thanks!

Do you have the E6400 with the Privacy Screen option? They are a different screen the the regular LED screens.

I have it, but I do not have the dell CP installed. Basically I have no idea what it does...

I believe CP software must be installed for the feature to work.

Tmf, I never saw the option pointed out on the Outlet site so I would presume no, but I vividly remember seeing the option and using it when the computer first came and I played around with it before formatting. From the youtube videos, apparently the privacy feature is supposed to impose some sort of a grid over everything? I didn't see that--instead what happened was that the screen just appeared black whenever you tried to look at it from any side angle, but was perfectly fine from the front. At first I even thought it was just a sign of a really crappy monitor, but after formatting and reinstalling Windows, I could suddenly see everything on the screen with almost no color distortion no matter how much to the side I was.

So on the basis of that experience, I think I might have some sort of privacy screen feature capability...But again, on the original setup I could see the option for privacy monitor settings right there in the DCP. Now I can't find it anywhere--not even a greyed out option (like I can for the "Full Disk Encryption" for instance, even though I definitely don't have the hardware support for that feature).

I just reinstalled the dell control point, and the option is no longer there! This is after upgrading to vista x64. Even the tech support people have no idea why that happened... we are trying to figure out how to get it back

Strange I just bought a E6400 from the Outlet with it specifically saying privacy screen feature. My understanding
was it showed a grid pattern. When i get my system Tuesday I'll
    post what mine does.

Andy, actually the new copy of Windows I installed is also the 64-bit version. Could that be the reason for this?

I'll try downloading the DCP on dell's site once the server stops being so slow. It seems the filed have been updated this past month, so maybe the issue will be addressed...

I'd guess that the feature is a part of Dell ControlPoint. I believe that it does, in fact, superimpose some sort of grid. Makes you wonder why it's not a standard feature if it's software and not hardware based...

Perhaps Dell CP doesn't work 100% with x64 systems?
