I bought some rubber bumpers and stuck them on the top display bezel as reported here.

I was thinking of trying to get them to bring two extras of those pads along with them when they come to replace the bezel sometime soon...since I now have the next business day repair.

Following up on the user on Dell's Community Forum who claimed to have made the issue escalation heard by Dell. He was reportedly been contacted by Dell:

    "Hello everyone. Here's an update.

Last FRI before I left for vacation DELL phoned me and told me that the "engineering department" in Ireland found "some issues with the thermal tables" in the BIOS of our E6400. They have obviously reproduced it and will offer an BIOS update. No one knows when, however. It is likely that it'll take some time for testing etc. "

Again, waiting for a tangible fix.

I had the same issue on my E6500 with the CPU being severely throttled and reported in the Windows system event log. I took off the bottom panel and removed the fan, and sure enough, there was some dust stuck in the exhaust. It wasn't actually that bad, but after removing it, the dust was clearly a significant cause of the issue.

What I find interesting - there is a "Thermal Events" page in the BIOS, at least in A13 for the E6500. However, I've never seen anything logged there - it always shows as empty. I chatted online with Dell about this, and all they could suggest was that it should, and that I should try re-flashing the BIOS - even though I'm already on the latest A13. They confirmed that I should try flashing from A13 to A13. I'm very skeptical, but I guess I should still give it a try lacking other current solutions...

Also I have been contacted by dell yesterday regarding my case. They told me that it had been escalated to the headquarters in Ireland. There they had recognized a problem and were working on a fix. I was asked whether I wanted to participate in a test for a new BIOS.

I too hope you said "Yes". If you do get the bios for testing, please share it with us or report back with your findings. Much appreciated.

Yes I did - I did ask however wether there was a revert possiblity. I am a contractor I can't afford to loose my PC though.

I'm curious, since you have the Nvidia card, I wonder how they'll translate the problem since most users affected by this issue have the Intel IGP.

The Dell BIOS flashing program is not fussy about doing a downgrade. I've done it.
