If you do any photo editing, or play HD videos, you will appreciate the WXGA+ display. It is also nice having that resolution for working on spreadsheets.

that seemed to work the best....however i still don't feel it's comfortable for me and my eyes aren't digging it too much still, will probably have to exchange for a 1280x800 unfortunately.
so i ask what is the real purpose of getting the 1440x900? i don't see any advantage...

I suspect the sharp and bright 1440x900 on 15.4" is the sweet spot. And it can still work on 14.1" Notice that the desktop may feel smaller than you are use to but how does it feel in Word and other apps... not so bad, I suspect.

yea in word and excel it is actually good, i see the benefit with more resolution in that regard, but in web browsing and viewing desktop im still not digging it YET, i suspect i may be able to get used to it, especially considering i am researching laptops again and re-confirming with every search i truly got a STEAL on this unit for 670.00 OTD (Out the door) including s/h tax/, etc... and then they just issued me a 50.00 credit yesterday b/c it came 2 days late, so i got it for 620.00 lol.

im browsing the net and i notice a weird issue i can't seem to figure out,,,, when i scroll down the right scroll bar of the IE window or firefox i click the bar and then usually hold down the left button and move my finger up or down to go up and down the page... well what seems to happen is it 'locks on' and i don't need to keep my thumb clicked down which is GREAT, but if i want to get off the scroller like go click on the page somehwere, it still sees it as wanting to be clicked onto the scroller and i cant get off the scroller without going back to the scroll and de-clicking it before i can proceed back to the web page... any ideas for tweaking? i fooled w/ the touchpad and button settings, couldn't figure it..

I'll guess that you are using the touchpad scroll feature and do not know it. The right and bottom edges of the touchpad can be configured for scrolling windows... no cursoring or clicking required... just slide your finger along those edges to scroll the window respectively.

good guess, but that wasn't it, i figured out what i was doing... and don't really like how they have it set up, it's good in theory, but a lil annoying...

if u tap down on the touchpad (not clicking any button) while positioning cursor on the bar that you scroll up and down on the right hand side of the internet browser, it "locks you on" now if you move the cursor anywhere in the screen, the idebar wiill still be locked on and you will see what i mean, sort of annoying. it COULD be useful but i dunno if i like it's function. it appears to disengage it you need to either button click or double press/click the touchpad...

That might be an 'auto-scroll' function. See if you can find/disable it in the touchpad settings. I'd check here, but 'my' E6400 is away at college.

i figured it out, it is a setting in "touchpad settings"
    under "taps"
    uncheck "drag lock"
and then it performs like most mice and touchpads normally do.

I'm outside at my pool (in sunny southern california) right now and using the latitude... man the screen brightness IS a great great benefit. I can see the screen without putting my nose to it and from about 3 week away with the unit on my lap amidst bright sunshine, and with the brightness set to about 80%.... just for this alone, I'm REALLY REALLY trying to make this laptop work, i'm afraid that if i get the 1280x800it won't be as bright?! do you know if the 1440x900 is any brighter than 1280x900 (the one with backlit LED) ??? or would it be same brightness as long as it's backlit LED? thanks!

Dell spec suggests the 1280x800 is 26% (80/300) less bright. Note the brightness of the ATG builds intended for outdoor viewing... much much brighter. So, I would say the 1280 will be noticeably dimmer outdoors.
