Does the E4300 suffer from the audio skips and static the way that the E6400 and E6500 do? From my brief amount of searching it appears it does not, but I'm just looking for a little confirmation :D.

the skipping is because of improperly installed intel mass storage drivers

Any audio issues with any of these systems have been worked out now. If you get a new system it should come with the updated drivers that resolve the issue.

Revisions to the IDT audio driver and Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver have resolved the issue.

I experience ZERO audio problems on my E4300.

Ahh ok, thanks. I just got a new E6500, so I'll have to see if it has these drivers installed or not.

Thanks for the insight. I just received a new E6500 and it skips pretty badly. The IDT driver is up to date, so I'll have to check out the Intel Matrix Storage Manager.

Updated everything in my new E6500, switched to ACHI mode instead of IRRT, and I still have the crackles. Every 60 seconds I get latency that looks like this [attached image]. Man, I got a good deal on it too (50% off) and now I have to send it back :-/. If the E4300 I ordered has this problem, I guess I'll have to jump to Lenovo or HP :(

i jus kept updating drivers and they seem to have disappeared but i feel your pain for months i had to put up with it

Yeah, I have it in AHCInow. I didn't have to go through the whole re-install bit, since my computer is running Dell's Vista image which apparently has the drivers and stuff necessary for AHCI.

Anyway, I updated my wireless network driver and it seems to have gotten a lot better. Now it appears to spike a whole lot less, and not nearly as audible either. I'm knockin on wood though! My E4300 has shipped as well, so I guess I kinda have to play around with it now.

After I switched to AHCI mode, I did a clean install of Windows just to make sure I had a clean slate and all the latest drivers.

As a side note, I installed the latest drivers from Intel for my WiFi 5300 (everything else was from Dell's support site). Seems to be working well. On the original image I was getting WLAN framework crashes every time I started my notebook. A clean install and using Intel's Driver seemed to have resolved the issue.

Just as an update. I installed all of the new drivers for everything on my E6500, and the crackling has subsided for the time being. I do get latency spikes every now and again, but it doesn't affect the audio/video. I think the driver that really changed things around was the wireless (Dell 1510) driver. Thanks for the help guys!
