Supposedly my M6400 will ship today. I opted for 2 7200 RPM drives for my configuration. I also selected the quad core processor, 1gb video and 8gb of ram. I was very close to purchasing with SSD drives, but my first experience with SSD wasn't very good. I purchased one of the first XPS 1330 with the 32gb SSD option. I really bought into all the hype and after about 60 days I swapped it out with a 7200 rpm drive. Anyway, looks like SSD drives have improved drastically.

I was just reading some reviews and performance tests on the Intel X-25 80gb SSD drives. I'm considering buying two for the M6400 and setting them up RAID 0. I really don't care about storage space.

Anyone have any thoughts or experience with a setup such as this?

    Thanks,
    Will

What is the lifespan on an SSD? Comparable to disk drive? And are they limited to a certain number of read/writes like memory cards?

Dual X25m will be nuts. If you have the money, go for it, as they will really speed up your entire system.

The lifespan of MLC SSD's is much shorter than SLC SSD's, but it's still longer than a mechanical drive.

You just hook up the USB cable as well as the ESATA to power the drive, it isn't like you need to plug it in.

Plus it looks like ESATA-USB combo cables are on the horizon, as Dell has one for it's E-Series media bay.

The E6500 will not take dual 2.5inch drives without some hacking away at the travel-light module and an adapter. Sorry.
