I have a new Dell Latitude E6500. It was broken, so Dell sent me another one. This time, I have the Dell Webcam Central installed. Does that mean I have a webcam? How do I find out?

Dont you see a 'webcam' on the top of your lid? Or have you checked in the sys spec list?

    Ah ok...

On the top of your laptop lid, above the display area, do you see a small glass panel in the center?

And its a camera.. an integrated camera, to be more precise (though I don't know if this is always there or if the user has the option to chose while configuring the system... anyway, doesnt matter.. if its there, you should see it :))

And sys spec list, I meant the order list or invoice or whatever...

Or go to dell.com and enter your service tag and you should be able to see your system specifications there..

it looks like there's a webcam up there. i made an account on dell.com, put my service tag in, but it won't show me the specs. It says Downloading/verifying the Dell System Profiler plug-in...

If you think you see a webcam, you have one. There should be a square about 5mm across, one small hole for the mic, and another small hole for the status LED.

yes i see it, how do i use it? The Dell Webcam Central thing doesn't let you use it. I know you can with Skype and stuff like that, but is there any way to do it without downloading something?

Skype or MSN will recognize the webcam.

I am going to try and get my hands on the consumer webcam software so that I can capture video and pictures from it though.

You can just start the webcam from within the chat software' like skype or yahoo for example..

Else, you could also just start up the webcam alone... to record something of yourself.. or if you wanna sing a happy birthday song to your family.. or if you wanna just admire yourself "on camera".. :D :D

I, in my XPS M1530, usually just start up the webcam from the Dell Webcam menu', which I can find in the start up program's list.. I see Dell webcam console, dell webcam center, dell webcam manager.. so we start this, and then you can start capturing the video or even just click a picture of yourself.... and you can do other stuff like brightness and things, from the webcam console window...

*I hope its the same for Dell Latitude also, I mean the software and such..*

If you cannot start the webcam app from the dell webcam center, from the start menu, then you might want to download the creative webcam driver *assuming the latitude' also come with this creative thingy*... else go to drivers n downloads section in dell, enter your service tag and get in the dell webcam app....
